Title: Book Recommendation for Whitetail Hunters
Post by: Seeking Trad Deer on July 19, 2007, 10:31:00 AM
I read as many archery/hunting books as I can get my hands on and I have been really impressed with "Bowhunting Pressured Whitetails".  It is not a stickbow but a book about techniques for killing pressured big bucks in archery season.      If anyone out there has a serious addiction to hunting whitetails that receive pressure I think you will get a lot out of this book.  I am surprised at how good the book is as I haven't heard much about it.  Here is a link to it on 3Rivers site if you want to check it out.

If you are interested in deer HUNTING I would suggest 2 very good books

"How To Bag The Biggest Buck Of Your Life" By Larry Benoit

"Big Bucks The Benoit Way" By Bryce Towsley

These books are NOT bowhunting books.....THEY ARE DEER HUNTING BOOKS!!!!!

They are about hunting deer on foot and on the ground. They are about following tracks and reading sign. You will learn more about reading and interpreting deer sign, and deciphering tracks and determining a bucks movement patterns, than probly any other book out there.

(and believe me,I've read ALOT of deer hunting books LOL)

Another outstanding book is backwoods bucks by David Biskish-more about stories than techniques, but excellent nonetheless.

If you can find a copy, take a look at "Taking Trophy Whitetails" by Bob Fratzke.  A lot of outdoor/hunting writers are just rediscovering now what he was saying 25 years ago.

For midwest whitetail bowhunting, here are my favorites in order.

"Whitetail Magic" - Roger Rothaar (always wonder if I spell his last name right)
"Hunting Trophy Whitetails in the Real World" - Don Higgins (currently reading)
"Hunting Rutting Whitetails" - Gene Wensel
"One Man's Whitetail" - Gene Wensel

These are all geared toward hunting mature, trophy class deer.
