My new Tall Tines arrived Tuesday and so far I am extremely pleased. Before ordering I had never shot a Tall Tines and did not know Brian Wessel but both came highly recommended by a friend. I now know why. Brian did a great job throughout the process and delivered a bow that I am totally impressed with especially being a base model. Specs are 54# @ 28” on a 58” bow. The short riser is charcoal with some really nice lines in it. The limbs are clear over brown stained base wood.
I started out with a Black Widow in 91 that I shot for years. Over the last 5 years I have hunted with a Bob Lee and a Timberhawk. All 3 are great bows but this Tall Tines is a new favorite for me personally. The grip forces my hand into the same position on each shot. It just simply fits better than any other grip Ive used. The bow has absolutely zero hand shock and was easy to tune. It shoots best for me with a 7.5” brace height. I was shooting with a friend and he commented on how quiet the bow was. Also after he shot it a few times he said “that was weird….nothing moves but the string” ha . The bow is very smooth and zips an arrow with authority. We start rutting here in AL in a few days so hoping for an opportunity at a good one with it.
I totally recommend this bow and bower to anyone. As a matter of fact I think I will go ahead and get on the list for my backup. Happy New Year guys!!
-
Congrats on the new bow.
Tall Tines are excellent shooting bows.
You're exactly right on the grip....the grip ridge puts your hand in the same place shot after shot. To my thinking, Brian has the best grip going. :clapper:

:readit: :campfire:
-
Yes Brian does an excellent job on craftsmanship and won't settle for anything less. Can't wait to see pics.
-
Now you have done it. Hard to stop at just one TallTines! Best thing to do right now is get a snazzy one ordered and then send your base model to Billy Shipp above and get it Camo dipped...
I too want to see a few pictures of your new TT
I am supposed to have some pictures coming of some checkering Brian has been doing to my longbow riser and hopefully a few recurve shots as well.
-
I just recieved my new TT this week and am in love with it, I shoot it just as well as my Brack Quests and my Silvertip.
-
And THAT would be a snazzy one! ^^^^^^^^
-
Danny, what are the wood combos on it? Very nice.
-
Danny, that's pretty much the bow I'd want to get from Brian! Nice!
-
Not surprized in the least that you are pleased.
Congrats!!
-
Hey Wiiliam--I see you are a new member. I can teach you how to post pics or if you e-mail me, could post them for you. Just click the little envelopes next to my name.
-
When I ordered my TT I opted for the base model as well. Not sure why, except I figured I would be less likely to be worried about scratching it or something. Thus I would more likey take it to the woods. It may be a base model, but it sure is pretty. I got the charcoal actionwood riser with a Walnut stripe and black glass limbs.

Nice bow, if you don't mind how do they compare to the Silvertip as they look a lot like one.
-
Lord you guys are killin me. I promised myself i wouldn't buy another bow. Man, i stink at keeping promises.
A Tall Tines is on my short list.
-
Whittler,
Your comment on the TT's looking like a Schafer is a common one upon first glace, but there is a tremendous difference if you had the bows side by side.
I'm not knocking Schafers at all because I own two, but for what I like in a bow the TT's are a cut above.
William. Your bow may be a Plain Jane model, but it will shoot just as good as the most expensive bow that Brian could possibly build.
-
I think I may have the most "base" TT ever built. No frills at all cause I built it to be dipped. Almost had second thoughts as BW's black glass is SO nice
(http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b351/osminski/Bows/P3270231.jpg)
But Billy's predecessor did such a good job and I know everything is all sealed up tight under it when I am in places like this

Your gonna love that TallTines. Your right the rut is getting started I killed a 8pt today working a scrape.
Good luck,
Randy
-
Hey Whittler,
Owned more than several Schafer's, just acquired a Tall Tines 3pc 58" 52#er, Walnut riser w/ Charcoal and black phenolic, limbs are camo with the same look as what Schafer doe's w/ Max1 Realtree on the belly and back under clear glass and antler burr bolts. I must say it has the best recurve grip I have had in my hands to date. I feel it's quicker and just as smooth on the draw as the Schafer. Fit, finish are as good as any along with being quiet, a hard hitting bow. I had been wanting to try one for some time, had the chance to pick this one up. I am a longbow nut at heart, so I may or may not keep it, if I do it will head up to Brian for grip checkering. But if it was the only bow I had, I would be just fine with it.

I'm working on Brian's new banner for his show booth. While I'm at it I need to shoot some pix of my set of myrtle limbs to post here. NICE.

While under a doctor's care on on too many meds (kinda-sorta) I sold my Talltines longbow while trying to teach myself to shoot lefty. My hand has healed, my bow is gone, and all I got is seller's remorse...now I gotta call Brian and beg for another thanks to you :)
Congrats on a fine bow, a fine bow-maker, and a new addiction! Good luck with her
-
Mike :knothead: :knothead: :knothead:
Well, now you will have to replace the longbow AND get a recurve for your return. Go with all Myrtle for your goat hunt...they are LIGHT!
-
I agree that base model bow looks great. Put some skins on it later on and that will dress it up a lot. Some canebreaks or eastern diamondback would look great and i know people on here who will gladly do it for free just to help a fellow tradganger.
-
flint,
My bow is made with a shedua riser with macasser ebony flare, checkered grip, the limbs are olive ash.
-
Good morning guys; Steve O I will email you shortly if you dont mind showing me an easy way to load some pics. Thanks for the offer.
Billy, yes this bow shoots great. I can't get over what a fine base model bow Brian builds.
Lin, nice looking bow there. I decided on the base because I bought it to hunt with. I will definitely have some non typical limbs in these AL thickets soon!!!
Randy, congrats on your 8 pt!!
-
I need to see some pictures of his Schafer like camo limbs. Danny, Thanks that is a beauty.
-
Not but one Tall Tines out with camo limbs, I have it. Flint Kemper, if you want pics of it, please pm me your email addy. I will forward you some I have on my phone.
Thanks,
Lanier

man ive been wanting to see pics of the base model, ive only really sen pics of really nice ones with exotic woods that dont really strike my fancy(i prefer plain jane bows), oh man it just looks so good!
-
Nice bows!
-
Flint,
I found you a picture of the Camo limb TT. It is the first bow in this shot. Best I have for now.

Man, I love Talltines takedowns. In line for a special Tip for now...but Brian will be making me something after that.
-
Very beautiful bows there Steve O...
-
Steve O,
I sent Flint some good pics of the camo Tall Tines...
Thanksc
-
is the takedown system no tools?
-
It would be.... either knurled knobs or antler knobs as mine has.....Steve O's pics above show it well.

Anybody talk to Brian lately? Been trying to get in touch with him since 12-12-11. Maybe he's hunting or his email is down. Anybody?
-
Try calling him leatherneck, I just spoke with Brian last week and he has been busy. His email being down I don't know. How far away are you from the akron-canton area?
-
I'm about 1.5 hour from Canton. I'm down around Wheeling, wva. I'll try calling him maybe tomorrow.
Sweet looking bows fellows!!!
-
I've been trying via email too since the same time frame. I've been wanting to get a set of antler knobs from him for my TT. I'll have to call too.
Man that's a nice picture Steve O!
-
It's not so much that I dont like the fancy woods as much. I just really like the black and brown combination. The base model covers that for me and seems like a natural camoflage.
Wow that bow of William's is a beauty.
-
Wish I could take credit for that photo. My friend Chad goes around Kzoo every year with his big fancy camera...he takes GREAT photos.

I'll take the second one from the right Steve. :bigsmyl:
Just got an email from Brian. He's just been a little swamped lately.
-
So Steve is there any difference in performance from the basic model to the upper end models. I know you have several to compare...thanks
-
The woods on the camo bow in Steves pics are actually a good bit darker than the pic shows. I will see if I can get some up....
-
:) Froggy, I was going to ask you to post those pics for all of us to enjoy! Thanks.
Leatherneck! That bow is a Myrtle riser. I know Brian has some incredible Myrtle in the shop right now and is going to have at least two of them At Kalamazoo. That is not too far of a trek...I had a lease near Jackson, OH a few years ago
And no, I have not found any performance difference between the standard or the exotics. All my bow are 60" (for now ;) ) and the one long riser TT I do have feels just a touch smoother, but they are all very, very close.
Some of the nicest looking bows I have seen sitting in the TT shop or on the show table have been base bows or especially base bows with snake skins added. I just can't bring myself to order one when Brian's exotic up charge is as low as it is. The quality of his exotic riser and veneer wood is many grades above the prices he charges IMO.
-
Thanks for you input Steve, very helpful. I need to give Brian a call in the near future.
-
Steve O...makes me laugh, I can just see you getting so excited, punching that keyboard, talking about these TT bows.
There just might be a left hand cocobolo/osage at K'zoo in a few weeks...just don't take it home for Daniel eh?
-
Bob, it will be good to see you
I found Chad's photo of the other side of that Camo limb bow:
And one of those "base" bows with skins added:

Here's my 2 cents!
Was lucky enough to have the TT crew up for bears this past spring and got to shoot all the bows. Which bow could I not put down.....Steve O's base model!! Loved it so much I ordered base model black glass limbs for mine. Best base model bow going...by far!
-
Yes Ryan, that Camo bow will probably be my last worldly possession. Wait till you see the checkering on the longbow...
Anyway, Lanier was having trouble with his PhotoBucket account so asked me to post the pics of the Camo limbs:

See, I told ya. Black and brown :) . And the antler burr just sets it off. That is gorgeous.
-
Thanks for throwing them up Steve :campfire:
-
Any time. I don't help with just TT pics...there are all kinds of things here; polar bear hunts, javelina and hogs, elk hunts, bow and arrow build alongside and refinishing. It is not the easiest thing to do (post pics) so I try to help where I can.
Pictures make the threads come alive!
-
You guys are making my wife nervous. I am wanting to call Brian and place an order and do not have the funds and this is coming from a diehard Hill longbow shooter. Very nice.
-
Flint,
He's got a GREAT 3pc longbow...

-
Those are some beauties.

That bow just looks "Right" to me. I agree it is pretty.
-
Anybody know if the recurve limbs will go on the lb riser? It doesn't appear like they would but thought I'd ask.
-
Right now recurve and longbow limbs do not interchange. I heard there IS another model in the development stage that will have interchangeable recurve and longbow limbs.
Also, I found another base bow somebody got for Christmas and I am trying to get some pictures of it for this thread.
-
No they don't.
-
I love those TT bows. I don't think anyone has ever complained about one they ordered or shoot.
-
Here is another. Sharp with black glass limbs. Did not get a pic with the limbs...

-
Steve, That one is a great shooting 34#, 62-inch recurve I got for a lady friend. Even these lighter bows feel cool. I will try to show the limbs later. Mike
-
The camo limb Tall Tines is about to hit the classifieds. A fine recurve, just a longbow fellow I am...
Thanks
-
For a base model bow-that's pretty delux. I wouldn't do a thing to it.
-
Here are a few more pics of the base model and black glass limbs. Mike

Very nice, like the non fancy look of it.Would like to see a double pin mounting system instead of one, just saying
-
CA is that a base model with clear glass Thanks Shane
-
Well, you can get a "Base" TallTines with Black or Brown glass or Actionwood or stained Bamboo under clear glass as your limb choices. Dymondwood is the only riser material.
