Title: New design for 2012 by Maddog
Post by: Mike Mecredy on December 30, 2011, 01:46:00 PM
Here's the new, improved, redesigned "Kaliska" (formerly midsized recurve) for this year. I used a little less lumber in the riser, so it has less curve on the back.  But using the same amount of limb materials as the old design, (54") I can get an extra 1/2" length per limb, due to less curve on the back.  This gives the bow another 1" of draw before it starts to stack.

This one's 54" long, (50" end to end when braced)
41" @ 28", works well with a 6 1/2" brace ht.

This particular one I used cocobolo for the riser, ash limbs, and black glass.

I used one seamless, one piece tapered lamination for the bow, at the weight of this one (41# @ 28")  I could attain that draw weight using only one wood lamination, keeping glue lines to a minimum.

The grip is ergonomically desinged for comfort regardless of the size of the shooters hand, inspite of the small, trim, grip.

unbraced

A prespective of the grip, I don't have huge hands

(I've been trying to get off the big bulky riser bandwagon for a while now, there's so many out there that are offered with big, deep, heavy risers and those are good, but I try to fill the voids in the market.)

Mike,

What would be the max draw on this design? Sounds like a winner for ground blinds for sure among other uses   ;)

Bud, I haven't retermined a max draw for this one, but I know it draws comfortably to 28" and 55# @ 28" seems reasonable.

Mike~  I love the look of the new riser.  I think I am just as excited about my son's bow arrival as he is.  Will his be this new designed handle or the old style?  Looking forward to seeing the finished product.  Also, my brother is wanting to order one, is the Kaliska recommended for draw lengths in excess of 26"?

Love the Kaliska, Mike.  Great looking design.  I've always thought the simple lines and slim riser of the '50s style recurve makes for a beautiful bow.  Very sharp.  Good luck with your new model and future bows.  You have some talent there.
