I just wanted to get some input on what you folks think of gray fiberglass on a bow. I have built a couple of these and think it is a neat look. The riser woods really "pop" with the light gray glass. Before I pursue any more of these I think I should get your opinion. Would you choose the gray over the other popular options availiable? Is it too light colored? Etc.
Thanks for your honest opinions...you won't offend me. Chad

Personally I think that its a cool look. Makes your bow stick out in a crowd. It looks awesome with purpleheart.
Great from a pop-up or treestand. I'd be leery if hunting from the ground though. I'm sure it still shoots as great as the rest of your bows though!
I saw the one you had at Denton Hill.......looked real good to me! It has kind of a classic look to it! This one looks every bit as good!
I have an old Massie longbow that has gray limbs.
The riser is some kind of laminated gray wood that has red laminations in it. One of my favorite combinations of woods and colors. The gray is really sharp.
It looks sharp I like it a lot. This must be the bow Karl was telling me about on the phone.
I like it. Beautiful tips.
It's different.
My preference would be brown or black glass on the back with gray on the belly.
let me shoot it for a while and i'll let ya know.
I like the looks of it, but does the sun reflect off of it?
To light for me.
I am partial to black glass or dark veneers.
Maybe if it was a couple shades darker.
John
It's unique, but it's not for me. It's great to have choices. You do fine work, Chad.
It looks good but I wouldnt choose it for a bow of mine. It is a very light gray, I wonder what a darker gray would look like.
Chad, Nice work, I do prefer a bow that shows the grain of wood... but I think some guys will like the grey.
There was a Hill in the classifieds that had grey glass ..... It was the first bow I'd seen with it. I was a HUGE fan of that Hill and I'm a HUGE fan of your bow too!
It is a light shade of gray, I wish I had the option of getting a darker shade but I don't. It would be a better target color then a hunting color.
I had one on my rack at Denton Hill. It got a lot of attention. Alot of people thought it was cool but chose to purchase a clear glass bow instead. I sent it home with Tippit and I came home with one of his knives.
I like it better than black ok green. Do agree darker shade would be better if available.
I never thought about two colors, I can see how black on the back and gray on the belly would be really different. Could you do a River Runner in Gray?
It is a cool look Chad! I little darker with some grey dymondwood in the riser would be awesome...but I'm a "grey" fan :campfire:
I prefer it to black for hunting, the dreary overcast sky we've had lately and White oak bark would go good with it. Clear is my favorite. It really helps show off the accents nice work.
I like it, really different.
I like the looks and would be tempted to build one, maybe even a couple, with the gray glass. However, if I am laying out money for a a nice bow the wood veneer under clear glass (even with the poor quality glass available) would definitely get the nod. I just prefer the look of wood. There should be a nich market for them though.
Very nice indeed Chad.
I think it looks great...with Ebony in the riser it is stunning!
Josh
Not a huge fan of the grey as one of my favorite things about traditional bows is the woods that are used so that you have that awesome grain under the clear glass. That said, the work is top notch and very clean! I may change my mind if you send one my way and I could hold it in my hands and further evaluate the grey accent. :D Nice Work!
Looks Great!! :goldtooth:
Not sure if it is "Gray" or "Grey" LOL.
Ron, I could do a River Runner in Gray but in my mind the grey looks better on the narrow limbs of the longbow.
Thanks for the comments guys. It is fun to build something different once in a while. Chad
I love the look...and with the right wood combo, I would order a bow with it. It would have to be the right wood combo for me though.
Great lookin bows Chad!

Good thought Josh...I bet that would look great!
I gotta tell ya'll, that gray glass bow with cocobolo riser jumped off Chad's rack. Then I shot it, smooth as butter. I'll get a picture to post of it...absolutely beautiful! I had anther gray glass bow before...HH with ebony riser and tips. The gray glass is stunning and very functional color for hunting...tippit
Chad, your bows are excellent for sure. The gray glass is definitely an eye catcher, maybe not for me but it does stand out.
i like the gray in the riser and on the tips.I dont like the gray back or on the belly at all.The other too bows in the picture look alot better to me.But on the other hand its nice to have options.
Can't say I like the gray but that Cedar is awesome.
Chad,
That gray was cool at Denton. Glad to hear that Jeff got it. I do think he likes the colored glass as I know he has a very sharp Stewart with black/brown glass. I am a colored glass guy myself. Clear is nice but only if it doesn't streak.
Take care buddy,
Craig
I like brown or black glass better. The gray reminds me of a primer job that hasnt been finished yet. Nice bow, just not what I would pick for myself.
I would prefer the clear over a nice veneer although iI kinda like Green glass with a nice contrasting wood riser.

Steve Turay (Northern Mist) told me that the guys who typically prefer the colored glass on their bows tend to be older guys who remember the bows we used to shoot back in the 60s and 70s (I am one of those older guys :D ). He said younger guys tend to look them over then order clear glass on their limbs--do you find that to be the case as well, Chad?
I am not sure how I feel about it. I like colored glass but would have to see it in person before placing an order. Since I dont order new bows ever, well I wouldn't have to worry about it.
I wish i had more time to spend at Denton looking at booths. I found out they have a closing time :knothead: :banghead:
I wonder how it would look with thin snake skins on it? you think it would bring out the patterns better?
You make awesome bows, but I personally wouldn't choose the gray. I agree that it looks a little like primer and would be a little leery using it on the ground. For a target bow, it definitely would get a lot of looks! I was very impressed with the quality of your bows when I saw them in Waterloo, Ia. last spring!

I like the grey and purple hart!! or with any reddish wood!
Chad, I love the grey glass. Keep up the good work :)
I agree David. Steve Turay and I visit all the time and had the same discussion. I have also noticed that the younger guys tend to think the thumbrest is way cool and the way to go whereas the old farts tend to think it looks like a "wart" on the side of the bow. LOL Room for all of us I guess.
Thanks for the comments guys. I think a lot of people think the gray is interresting or neat but when it comes right down to purchasing they would go with clear or a darker colored glass. I will bring that bow along to KZOO if anyone wants to look at it up close.
As stated, there isn't too many riser woods that would go with it. It would have to have some red in it, I would think. Cocobolo, Bubinga, purpleheart, Kingwood would work and as an after thought, black ebony would be cool.
I'll keep a few pieces or Gray in stock for special orders. Thanks, Chad
Chad, like this Hill?

I think it would look cool with silver tone dymond wood, green hornet spectra ply, or ebony. Gray happens to be my favorite color, so I like it. Where in the heck do you get different colors of glass?
Hec, I like it! My favorites in order: Black Glass, Brown Glass, Green Glass, and now Grey Glass.
It is interesting Chad, but darker, like the '62 Kodiak and Kodiak Magnum would look much more Retro. I do like the Gray used in accents though. Like tip overlays and Riser accents. Looking forward to chatting again at Kazoo.
I still hunt aspen and poplar, it would be great, blend right in. I'll be up to look at one soon.
I think it looks super sweet, I saw one at a shoot last year. Really looks good with a dark riser wood. Gray is as natural color as brown in the woods I hunt.
Same color as the beech tree in this neck of the woods.......should blend right in!!
Very cool!!
