After nearly 5 years in development by John Havard and a full year with Jason and me we finally have the new ACS recurve production ready. We are offering it in both our new bolt-down Orion risers and ILF.
The limb is an all new design from the ground up. It combines proprietary carbon (called Crazy John's by the manufacturer) with our dirty bamboo core and a new carbon weave to produce a smooth, stable, and extremely fast limb. Our test numbers put it among the fastest bows in the market place but we will wait for Blacky's official tests next month before publishing any numbers. But put it this way - it's faster than our CG longbow limbs.
Offered in Short, Medium, Long and XL combined with 13, 15 or 17" risers our Orion can be configured from 54 to 64". The ILF limbs are compatible with all ILF risers.
After a long development period and after months of testing (including over 50,000 cycles at 30" on our cycle tester) we're now ready to take orders for this long-awaited ACS recurve limb. We will have a about a dozen sets of ACS recurve limbs along with several sets of ACS bolt-down longbow limbs available for purchase at the Kalamazoo Traditional Expo. Delivery on orders for these new limbs will begin in February.

Wow! Another great reason to be in Kalamazoo Michigan in January. Looking forward to shooting it Mike. Congratulations to you, John, and Jason, and Merry Christmas!
Outstanding !
Nice wingnut!
Bisch
Outstanding Mike... Y'all do Great work
I can hear the arrows sizzle.....
How much will the limbs cost and will it fit the old risers.
Sweet!!
intriguing!
Mmmmm I like!
Probably have to wait till santa comes round again though :(
Joe,
The limbs will be $625 and will not fit the old Orion risers. The ILF will fit them all though.
Mike
oh yeah!! gonna have to get a set of ilf later this year.
Had a little trouble when speed testing.

Mike
Just in case there is confusion. The bolt-down limbs are Dryad Limbs and fit only our new Dryad Orion riser. I've been getting questions.
Mike
:bigsmyl:
Mike. . that was good (funny). . I don't care who ya are. . . .
Looks like a fine new bow.
ChuckC
Congrats, Mike! Very elegant profile...
Marco
:scared:
congrats, looks awesome!
Looks like a "smokin" deal on a set of limbs.
Very nice work!
Man I love the pics they look fantastic. The arrow pic made my laugh out loud (LOL).
Great job
Terry
:clapper: I'll say this. If a guy can't find something to trip his trigger at this years Kalamazoo. He has a real problem! So many great new offerings!! Great job folks! See you next month.
Bill
Yep Bill it should be a real fun time at KZoo with all the new stuff.
Mike
Great looking bows
So many great bows, so little money.
Had to look twice. First thought I was looking a hay hooks instead of recurve limbs. Very nice wingnut!
Very nice
Looking great Mike and gang! Lovet he profile...looks Fast!!!
Great job y'all!! Love the flaming arrows!
Looking at the pics says this has to be static tipped limbs. Am I right?
Troy
What kind of stringer are you using for those limbs Mike? Looks like it might take a man and 2 boys to string those!
Yep the ACS in the limb makes them a static but with very little weight in the outboard part of the limb.
We use a regular cup and block. Not really that hard to string.
Mike
Oh man oh man oh man......Is it too late for Santa to make a commando run on the shop?
Thats the kind of curves that makes my wife jealous! Well done fellas
How about a pic of it at full draw?
Troy

I'm with Troy.....add a full draw pic and we'll have it covered. :bigsmyl: Nice, real nice..
Wow! Gotta rethink my next bow purchase!
You folks have been busy at Dryad bows! Nice looking and no doubt great preforming limbs.
I would expect this bow to recieve considerable visibility.
Just curious - The ILF riser has considerably more deflex than the Orion Bolt-Down yet the Orion Bolt down is braced significantly higher than the ILF.
Note: The previous version Orion riser appears to be a moderate reflex design where the lastest Orion version riser is a slight deflex.
This is an uninformed inquiry that may be quite obvious to others.
Please educate me?
Scott,
The two risers are very simular with the Orion having about .200 less forward push (reflex). They should be braced at the same height but we were short on strings and made do with what we had.
Mike
Good stuff Mike.
Merry Christmas!!
All of us at Dryad bows.
Have found the new offerings dangerously thought-provoking.
Merry Christmas!!
Wow it's amazing how far the reach is of these websites. Just got an order from Hungary for a riser and RC limbs.
Mike
So, since these are being made with the ACS design does that mean the limb laminations are those with the thinner curved cross-section?
Burnsie,
The limbs are molded into the ACS cross section. The outer limbs are very thin.
Mike
How far past the riser do the limbtips set when unbraced?Looks to be 5+ inches
Wow, with it shooting flamming arrows like that, all you need to do is dip the feathers in sweet baby rays BBQ sauce and a pig shot with that bow will be ready to eat as soon as you walk up to it.
Looks very impressive to me,nice.
Made in the USA?
Hi Mike
So with the new Orion riser it is available with both the new ACS recurve & the ACS long bow limb as well or are they different risers for each bow.
Looks like a real Texas bow, boy, I am stampeding ;) No joking, with the limbtips so much in front of the handle when unbraced the bows must have a lot of prestress and a heavy drawforce curve. Looking forward to Blackie`s bow report. Nice work. Bue--.
Man i see another Dryad in my future.lol.Love yal bows.Great work
I just got a set of medium recurve limbs from Mike for a 15" Dryad riser and I was saying that I don't need any more bows. Now this. Why do you have to do this to a guy?
Yep built here in Texas by Jason and me.
You can get the new Orion in a 13, 15, or 17" riser and all four limbs fit all of them. It's a bolt-down with a lot of the flexibility of the ILF. You just have to get it all from us. LOL
Mike
Connie got the webpage updated with the new offerings. Take a look.

Mike
lol!, how much is the whole complete bow going to cost?
Basic riser $300 and RC limbs $625 plus $25 S&H.
You can go fancier if you want for more $.
Mike
Will there also be a model with a built-in nitrogene arrow cooler....just in case. :-)
Yep instead of a stringer we were thinking of a fire extinquisher to send along. LOL
Mike
Hey Mike, the flaming arrows are a good indication of what kind of speed we can expect! The static tips I've shot in the past were easy to quiet...what can we expect from the ACS in the silence department? Thanks, Jr.
They are not as quiet as the Epic but are pretty easy to temper down.
Mike
sir,
we are a few on the main french trad internet forum ( ATO (http://www.arctradionly.com) ) to wonder what you mean exactly by 50.000 cycles, does it inculde firing each time or only drawing...of course that's not for bashing but just for well understanding...I am myself an ACS first hour fan...If I count well I still have 5 of them at home and have even owned as much as 8 under my roof :scared:
what would be your recommanded length and draw weight for some 53@29" limbs mounted on an hoyt buffalo riser (with ILF adapters) ?
jean
Jean,
The cycle tester draws the bow to 30" and lets it down to brace. Repeats and counts. We run it continuously for 50k (about 92 hours).
I didn't know the hoyt buffalo had ILF adapters and have not even handled one since they came on the market. What length riser is it? And what is the weight conversion for ILF limbs to it?
Mike
Hey Mike,
Congrats on your new limb design.
I just about ruined a perfectly good key board seeing the flaming arrows. I sprayed coffee all over the screen laughing. I've been tempted to do something similar myself, but ya beat me too the punch on this one.
I have a question for you, if you don't mind? Does this limb design have the same radius cross section as the ACS long bow limbs?

Mike, thanks for your answer...the ILF adapter can be bought seperatly, the buffalo riser is made for the formula system...the buffalo riser is 18.5"...I have no idea of the ILF weight conversion for it
Yep Blacky told me about the adapter and said at least one of them was only for their limbs. An interesting concept though. Can't figure why Hoyt did that.
Mike
When you say all 4 limbs fit the new riser, I assume that includes the ACS LB limbs. So all the limbs also fit the ACS risers?
Very Nice Bow :-)
It would be cool to see the cycle tester in action.
You do great work!!!
HECK, gimme one of those bows and I will not only draw it over 50,000 times but will shoot an arrow that many times too. Might take me more than 92 hours to get that done, however. :D
Todd,
The bolt down riser and limbs fit our Dryad Orion riser only.
Mike
Does this limb design have the same radius cross section as the ACS long bow limbs?
Kirk,
Nope, different radius designed to optimize the performance of the limb.
Mike
so what did it do thru the chrono?
Jim,
Unlike some bowyers we do not publish our numbers but wait for official testing. Blacky will have a set of limbs in a few weeks and should have test results in time for KZOO.
Mike
Will there be an ACS recurve limb to fit an ACS riser? I really like my RC riser.
Nope, we are not associated with A&H archery. YOur bow is an A&H ACS longbow. They build bows under a license agreement from our partner John Havard.
Mike

Mike
Thanks Mike, i was just curious.....
I've been told that the original "ACS" stood for "Adcock Cross Section"..... looking at that limb design i couldn't imagine pulling that one off in a radius cross section and keeping it stable.
I know some other bowyer's with a very similar designed limb that are getting great results. I'll be interested in seeing the test results.
love your flaming arrows! :clapper: :clapper:
Oh it's radiused but not the same as the longbow.
That was your question. . . right?
Mike
So it DOES have a radius cross section?
Wow! I'd like to see one of these up close and personal.
$625 plus S&H and it's yours .. . LOL
Mike
Kirk,
It looks like you need to make a nice winter trip to Texas to check this out! :)
Speaking of that, I could probably use a nice winter trip to Texas.
I like the looks of those limbs a lot Mike...and Jason....and John.
Thanks guys.
Mike
What will be the shortest bow or the length of both longbow and recurve in both the ILF and the Boltdown. And I want to bring this to the top for my buddy. Widow
With the 13" riser and shorts you can get 54" on the recurve and with mediums 56 on the longbow.
Drawlength is limited to 27" in both.
Mike
What kind of length would i need to accommodate my 29" draw Mike?
I looked on your site and had a rough time figuring out pricing. Is the $625 figure you gave me for a carbon limb bow? and is this bow a double carbon limb, or just single carbon back?
Got any pic's of this "Crazy John's" Carbon?
mike boy that baby looks like a screamer and I look forward to Blacky's testing results
Any chance you will be at Waterloo in march?
Can you get wood veneers on the acs recurve limbs. Widow
I forgot to ask how does the draw weight change when going up or down in riser length Thanks. Widow
Sorry but I did not see on your web sight how far both risers are cut past center Thanks again. Widow
Widow Sax,
No veneers on this one as it's got carbon not clear glass.
Drawweight remains the same on our risers. If using others it's normally 1 pound per inch gain for going shorter and one pound loss per inch for going longer.
Risers are cut 3/16 past center.
Kirk,
That's the limb price. They are triple carbon and no you can't see the "crazy John's" It's secret stuff. LOL
Mike
Wow, stunning.....great work Mike. Looking forward to Blacky's test.
QuoteKirk,

Mike
So if i want to purchase the standard TD bolt down bow it's $625 for the limbs, and how much for a 17" riser?
I think I'd need a riser bro... those limbs would look kinda funny on a Sasquatch riser. LOL!
Triple "Crazy John's" Carbon eh? That's got a nice ring to it.
Kirk,
You can get the prices on all of our products on our website link at the bottom of my post. Just go to the section "price list". LOL
Mike
Would putting skins on your limbs be a problem Mike?
Nope, you can put them on if you like or have someone else do it. We don't do skins any more.
Mike
When I got my wife her DAS bow the first set of limbs she had were used Synerzy limbs by W&W. They had the same kind of limb and were nice shooters.
Mike: I recently got some Border HEX 6 limbs. Best limbs I ever shot. Would it be possible to do a comparison. I am sure Blacky can come up with some sort of comparison. I would love to fine a US bowyer that could make a comparable limb. Between you and Bob Morrison I think it may not be too far away. You guys are on the right track.
Our limbs will be on the way to Blacky shortly. Not sure if Border is sending any.
Mike
My habu is going for sale immediately!!!! As soon as it sells you will be hearing from me ...
Cant Wait
JP
I´ve ordered those ACS RC ILF limbs yesterday.
And a nice 17" Dryad Epic ILF riser some weeks ago.
Man, I´m pretty curious, cant wait till february... :)
I´ve been shooting Border HEX 5 for a year and a half, so I can compare subjectively.
I will report.
Jorg,
Looking forward to seeing your results.
Mike
These follow the trend of the longer ILF limbs being faster than the shorter ones of the same draw weight?
I'm seriously thinking about mating a pair of these long limbs to my 13" ILF riser. That'd be a scary 58" curve.
Mike,
on the website under pricelist I don't see the price for a orion riser listed, just for the complete standard orion bow.
The ACS recurve limbs are $625 as mentionied above in this post, but how much is a orion bolt down riser? Same pricing as with the Epic risers?
I guess that is the same question Kirk has...
Thanks...
We've been updating the website the last few days. Take a look now.
Mike
Mike,
I´m pretty sure the result will be awesome.
I really look forward to that Dryad bow.
Its the first one for me, I´ve never shot one.
But the limb design looks very promising and the dryad epic ilf risers are eyecatcher. imho
Now we're talking. Thanks..
no problem!!
Did Blacky complete the test? I could not find it on his website. Thanks.
Yep he did. It should be on the website by the end of the week.
He posted results here a few weeks ago.
speed was 198 fps at 9 gpp.
Mike
Mike I'm trying to figure out how long a set up would be from the website and I must be dense. I am interested in a 17" riser but with the shortest limb that is still effecient on that riser (large head and hands and only 27" draw). What would the bow length be?
Also I missed it in the thead. What were the specs on the bow that Blackie tested?
Mike, was 198 FPS with release or fingers?
Dryad Legend ACS ILF Recurve Limbs on 15" Epic Riser
Draw Weight @ 28": 42,6 lbs
Stored Energy: 41,20 ft-lbs
Ratio SE/PDF: 0,97
Arrow Weight: 384 grains
Arrow Speed: 198 fps
Kinetic Energy: 33,44 ft-lbs
Efficiency: 81,1%
Here's the link to his thread:
http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=113257#000000
Mike, Sorry but that link did not answer my question??
I'm not sure but I think Blacky's tests are done with a release on the shooting machine.
Mike
Thank you mike.
Blacky's review is now on his site.
