I know I'm going to get in trouble for starting a thread without photos but I promise they will follow this evening.
4 weeks ago after much encouragement from Tater and Chromebuck I contacted Dan Toelke about his Lynx 3 piece longbow with his new HS limbs. What a fantastic gentleman who has a huge life long passion for archery. A few days later I decided to take a risk and order one. I say "take a risk" because I've never shot one of Dan's bows and realize that can be a huge mistake with buying any bow. Dan talked me through that dilemna and we came to an agreement. He also said the bow would be on my doorstep in 5 weeks, possibly sooner. Sooner is how it worked out!

Tim,
It sounds like a beautiful bow. I'll be looking forward to the pics and your assessment on how it shoots.

Now that one sounds beautiful Tim. Don't keep us waiting long.
-
tim, i have been eyeing that model for months. can't wait to see pics and then get your opinions on it.
im guessing the new HS limb is a little more r/d?
-
Can't wait to see and hear more about this one. Very high on my potential next bow list.
-
I can still count on my fingers (barely) how many bows I have bought from Dan and have owned (or am about to own) every model he makes except for 1. He is an amazing man and hopefully in another month I will get my skinned 2pc recurve.
The most truly custom bows I have ever owned. He has even tweaked them for me after I got them at extremely reasonable prices given the work required.
He and his son make bows fulltime which allows them to get them to you quickly.
Thanks Greaseman for turning me on to Toelke bows.

Your not home yet! I thought you only work half days this time of the year. (LOL)
-
I know I really like the Toelke that I have....can't wait to see the photos... :campfire: :coffee:

I just got my bow from Dan yesterday. A 62" whip. Man, Man, Man, what craftmanship. The only drawback is that he got it to me too fast. I recently had carpal tunnel surgery and can't shoot anything for another two weeks!
-
Allright this is serious..! We need some pictures.!!..... :readit:
Please.. :bigsmyl:

I can tell you Tim called me and sounded like a little kid on Christmas morning. Tim was blown away with his whole experience with Dan Toelke . To hear Tim this happy about a bow is very impressive to say the least. I guess my present to him will have to wait until next year.LOL

Ok folks here are my thoughts on the bow and bowyer. Dan is first class and has a huge passion for archery. When you guys call him plan on being on the phone for some time. He asks quite a few questions about your shooting style, how you grip the bow, how you position your fingers on the string, etc. He wants to know as much as he can about how you shoot a bow. He than provides you with his thoughts on what type of grip, what length bow and how the bow should be tillered.
When our conversation was finished he filled me in on what he thought would work for me. A medium low grip, a 60" bow and an even tiller. When I received the bow it came with two strings both having silencers already installed and a nock point already tied on. All I had to due was string it up.
The bow tuned extremely easy. All I had to do was find which spined arrow fit. I ended up with 28.5 inch 35/55 Gold Tips and a 200 grain point. Dan's brace height suggestion of 7" was dead on, as was his 5/8 nock point. The arrows tuned perfectly and I was shooting a bare shaft at 25 yards within 15 minutes of stringing the bow.
The overall finish is perfect, not a flaw that I can find and both the limbs and tips are dead straight. Dan requires a trace of your hand so the grip fit me perfect. The shelf is designed to place the arrow right on top of your index finger, so it points very easy.
The bow is pretty dainty and light in hand. Mine has micarta and I attached a Great Northern quiver right away to give it some mass weight. The riser does have a thumb rest that centers your hand every time, no hand movement at all.
The bow is QUIET, extremely quiet. It comes with rubber silencers already on the string that I trimmed down quite a bit. The bow needs very little silencers of any type. It's just a quiet design. I'm shooting 50lbs and my arrows are 485 grains just to give you an idea of grains per pound of draw weight.
Performance wise, I was impressed. The first few shots I thought, wow, what a quiet bow. It seemed pretty quick and I saw nothing but the nock headed down range. I moved back to 40 yards and was suprised, very little arrow drop. I headed back in the house and plugged in the chronograph :knothead: , yeah yeah I hear you!!
So here you go: 50@28, 60 inch bow, 485 grain arrow. 179 fps. You decide whether or not it's fast. I've had quite a few bows and I was impressed. I do realize every chrono is different so I use it more as a comparison to the bows I have or have had. If you want some comparisons against other bows pm me.
I tried to get home in time to take some outside photos but it was already past prime time so you'll have to settle for inside shots. ENJOY!

Maybe I'll just need to take a road trip after hunting season ends.
Merry Christmas!

Great review of the bow as well.

Great looking and performing bow. Appears all your expectations have been exceeded! Enjoy. How about that Silver Tip? FYI, after shoveling two feet of snow I did launch 20 arrows, all well shot.
-
Allen......You are always welcome here in PA! An open invitation.
Mark....you've still got a bottle of scotch to finish from your last visit. How do you drink that stuff? :saywhat:
-
Tim..very nice!!!!

Very nice bow and great review.....
-
Santa was good.
-
Tim, I knew you would like her, the one I shot this past spring was a gem. She is indeed a beauty, pretty Juniper is hard to beat.
-
Nice Bow Tim!!!! :goldtooth:
-
great looking bow, tim.....so what bow are ya selling at Baltimore in May?
Lee
-
I've been pretty good Lee and only keep one or two right handed bows in the house. My Schafer and Toelke.
I do have a couple sentimental lefty bows in the house that I'll never sell. Plus my son is a lefty and he's apt to grab one of them.
I've had quite a few bows over the years but more often than not the new one pushes one of the other ones out the door.
Merry Christmas!
-
Very nice bow. I love the Pau Ferro. How does this sound? "Honey, I need another custom bow with my name on it so there will be one to pass down to each grandchild."
If it works, I'm set because there is another one in the oven. Maybe that one would like a Caribow.
Great bow Sir. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
-
 Very nice bow Tim! Hope you can make it back next year so I can see it in person. Thanks for taking time to share! :campfire:
-
Wow Tim, what a nice Tolke, I pity the deer that crosses your path!

Probably with a bit of ice and branch... :biglaugh:

You going to stipple the grip, Tim?
Neat to see you fired up!!
-
Naw Dave, way too purity for me to dimple it all up. Hopefully I'll see you this spring and let you run a few arrows through it. Real nice bow.
Sounds like you may be a scotch man, stop by any time it'll still be where Mark left it on the shelf..
:p yuck....lol
Merry Christmas my friend!
Tim.
