Title: Trad expo and shows
Post by: MCNSC on December 21, 2011, 07:33:00 PM
There are not any big Trad shows around these parts. If a fellow could go to only one of the big trad shows which would you recommend.

How long of a drive is it for you to Birmingham Alabama?  The last weekend in February will be the Tannehill shoot hosted by Compton Traditional Bowhunters and All South Archery Association.  Lots of 3D shooting, a bunch of great vendors, and loads of fun!  It would be well worth a trip for you.

ETAR (aka Denton Hill)  More vendors than any show, plus you can shoot till your fingers bleed.

If you can make it to Alabama around the first of June you could take in the 8th annual Howard Hill Southeastern Classic. Really a fantastic event. They have a web site, check it out.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe a few of us SC guys could plan a trip to one of these. I have thought about going in the past but they are all just too far to justify driving by myself.

Mike,
The Tannehill Pre Spring Arrow Fling is an outdoor event.  This will be the 3rd annual event held by All South Archery Association.  This year Compton Traditional Bowhunters has teamed up and it should make for one of the best events of the season!

Dates are Feb. 24, 25, 26 at Tannehill State Park near McCalla, AL.  There is plenty of camping available, lots of shooting and a great line up of vendors already committed.

Send me an email at joe@prairietrad.com and I'll forward a copy of the ad that is in the most recent Compton magazine "A Walk In The Woods"

Hope to see you there!

But if you plan to camp at Denton Hill get there at least by Tuesday--and Monday is better.  Then you can hang out with a few hundred others who got there over the weekend before that.  :D  Seriously.  I would no way wait to go to Denton Hill until Thursday to try to find a camping spot.

Maybe it's the giant hills, or the huge old trees and ferns. Maybe it's the feeling of being at a truly unique festival. Perhaps it's the location; far from towns and cities...out amongst the deer and bear. It could be the ski lift and the view from the top.....

I've been to about every "major" event at one time or another. All have something good to offer. For some reason though, Denton Hill, PA has continued to be THE big trad archery-bowhunting event in the eastern U.S. If there was only one archery event on my calendar for the entire year, it would be Denton Hill.

We went to ETAR this year and were blown away by the amount of vendors, the amount of shooters and the quality of the courses.  I have shot a lot of 3-d but never any where you took a ski lift to the top of the course.  It takes at least two days to see all the vendors and shoot half the courses, three to four days to really see it all.  I give ETAR (or denton)  a huge thumbs up.  We have already made plans to leave two days earlier this year!
