Title: Strike Plate
Post by: DKdc on December 20, 2011, 06:13:00 PM
Hello guys,

I read about guys building out the strike plate with velcro to make left and right adjustments. How do you add on to the existing velcro to bring it out farther. I dont understand how you build out on any strike plate? I am fairly new still and appreciate the help. Thanks for your time.

i put a paper match stem behind the velcro or in my case sealskin.

If you have to the  take seal skin or velcro plate  off to put a match stick behind it do you use and adhesive to reaply. Or just put a new one on?
Thanks

The adhesive that is on the backing works just fine to restick it.  Otherwise barge cement works great.

DKdc ... you can use any double back sticky tape to restick the side plate.

Go to the craft dept. at your local Wal-Mart and buy some HD velcro.  For about $3 you can buy enough to make probably 20 strike plates. I don't re-use it if I peel it off my bow, its too cheap to fool with.  Matchstick, plastic coffee stirers, small dowel sanded down flat on one side, lots of things you can use to space out your strike plate.

I had one bowyer recommend something to me that I'll share.

He suggested using black plastic elec. tape...just keep building up layers... when you finally get the results you want (shimming out sideplate also helps with weak spine), then peel off the wad of tape, measure it (I used my reloading calipers) and then add that amount of material behind your existing type side plate material and you're "in the zone".

I often use round toothpicks... Anything pretty much works.

Just remember changing the side plate will change how the spine of the arrow will react, either weaken it or stiffen the reaction.
