I was working over my 73-77 vintage Kodiak Hunter arrow shelf last night which would allow me to get the arrow down on my hand. It got me to wondering how many here modify their bows in such a manner? I've shot longbows since 96 and I can't get used to a elevated shelf.
I have lower a shelf before and gave it more radiused profile. Some bows in the 70's had a flat shelf because some were going to stick on elevated rests. If it was a real collector piece I might not do it ,but a hunter/shooter absolutely.

I am working on some junk bows I have,it is good.But if you want to maintain the value of a bow it is said to leave it original.
Here are two Super Grizzly bows. The one with the lower shelf still has the factory finish, so I assume it was done at Grayling when it was made (although I am not the original owner, so there is no way to tell the history for certain). Other than the lower shelf, the measurements are almost identical.
If it had collector value, I would most likely leave it alone. But then again it is your bow......

Bear cut his way down, so he could shoot off his knuckle. I don't get that carried away, but I have cut down and rounded the shelves on some bows. I'm no collector and don't care much what the next guy likes. If I like the bow otherwise, I do what it needs to make it fit ME.
I would be a little careful doing this. That bow is tillered and designed for an arrow rest at a certain location as compared to the bows center line. Lowering it a lot might throw it all off. Might not, but be careful.

It helps when canting the bow. I have shot longbows for years and it is close to that feel.
The shelf is 0.75" above the throat, where it is deepest.
I did it on several bows but it never seemed to make much difference for me.
I used to do it but it's not good for shooting with heavy mitts or gloves on. Here in Canada the weather forces us to wear insulated hand wear which lifts the arrow off the shelf. I actually sold my Predator as it was unshootable in cold weather....for me! I'd rather have my brain adjust for a thicker shelf than have contact issues.
