I have some very well made loc on type stands that I would like to continue to use. The company has discontinued the model probalbely because they are heavy. I would like to replace the worn out straps with chain. Has anybody done this? Do you have any recomendations on what hardwear to use and where to get it from?
Don't know what make stand you have, but you can probably get the hardware and chain from Loc-On tree stands. Rather than use a chain you should consider using the speed hitch rope Loc-On sells for some of their stands. A lot lighter and extremely quiet compared to a chain. I've used them for years with no problems. Generally replace the rope every 2 - 3 years depending on wear.
You can probably look at the stands on their site and find something close to yours, order the hardware for the stand closest to yours and it will most likely work. It's not rocket science, you can also buy hardware at Home depot, Lowes, Ace, which will be stronger than what is provided by the stand companies. I do this occasionally, but then I believe in overkill when it comes to safety in trees.

Sized chain should be plenty strong. I know Lowes has chain also Tractor Supply has a good selection of chain and hardware.
Check out McMaster Carr on line.. Ton of chain to choose from
I like chain too, I have a couple of LEM's with the chain and I like them.
I find it easier to hook a chain link on a hook than fight a strap. Plus we have big squirrels but they will not chew through a chain. :bigsmyl:
Yes, any of the hardware/Home improvement stores ought to have chain. Buy good chain and strong bolts and you will be good to go.
I buy and use chains with a galvanized finish from the local hardware store, it elimates the glare and they do not rust; havent needed to replace one yet.
