I am taking up archery after a long hiatus and have purchased a Ragim Impala recurve, 45 pound. I am planning to shoot without sights to start as I have never used sights. Just wondered how sights can be attached to the bow if I decide to try them and what would be recommended to someone who has never tried them.
You can screw them on and I have seen them taped on. But I would continue with out them. Start out close to the target and focus on the spot you want to hit. The more you shoot the better you will get.
Sights make shooting VERY different. With sights you have to hold the bow perfectly vertical and you have to judge the distance to the target pretty accurately in order to select the right sight pin. In my humble opinion you will have far more fun without the sights.
Welcome. Look in the archives for "instinctive shooting" for reams of information. Most tradsters use no sights. Some use the "gap" aiming method. Suggest Byron Ferguson's book, "Become the Arrow", for concise explanation to get you started.
Thanks for the replies, I think I will stick with instinctive shooting as that is what I learned originally. Just curious about sights though.
