Just for record, how many of you are been lucky to harvest a game?
I am curious to know how can be the success rate for a traditional bowhunter.
For sure many reasons are involved like how many days you have spent hunting, how much pressure in your area, how many animals are around and so on.
What make me to ask about this is that also there are a lot of members here,i don't see that many animals taken, maybe just not posted!
Thanks.

I havnt had any lcuk making meet this year. I hunted about 10 days this year (i work to much) and never had the chance to drop the string on a buck i liked. Last year was the same story. I can only hunt turkeys and deer so i dont shoot much game as the turkeys are way smarter than me and we just dont have many deer anymore. The last whitetail i took was 3 years ago.
I just haven't gotten out as much as I would like, and some of the property I hunt has received a ton of pressure the past couple of years.
So, no, I am dry. My wife had a shot on a deer with her K-mag but it was unfortunately not recovered. Based on the shot etc...I am 90% sure it lived and learned more than we did.
Our season ends Feb 5th but I can count on one hand the number times I will be able to get out between now and then.
I have taken 3 deer one of witch was my largest ever with a bow.I see deer 9 out of 10 hunts.however this year has been a little weird.
as far as how an when i see deer
I`ve sat in deer stands and blinds 72 times this year. Probably 2-5 hrs a time.Seen 51 deer and killed 10 and missed 1. I hunt areas that are hunted hard .A lot of public land and a gun area around home.Average shot distance is just under 10 yards.RC
Every time I kill something I feel very lucky.
I don't believe in luck but rather the fact that I'm overly blessed when it comes to taking game...†
Maybe a poll thread would have been best for collecting this knowledge Felix. That way the answers would be anonymous.
I feel blessed every time I get in the woods much less see or kill anything..
Yes Tom,I think the results can be useful for everybody,i have to figure out what to ask on the pool, thanks.
This last year I have had my highs and lows. I had my worst turkey season I have ever seen but had my best elk season in years. I didn't kill an elk but had lots of action. I had to let several good mule deer walk because I wasn't lucky enough to draw a deer tag this year. I did post a duck I took on the wing a few weeks ago but thats it for me this year.
Lucky ? Did you say. . . Lucky ?
Why, none of us are lucky. . just really good !
:smileystooges:
I am not as lucky as I used to be cause as luck would have it, my area now has CWD and the DNR has declared war on anything brown for many years. I don't see near what I used to.
Luck was on my side this year however and I got one.
Thanks. .

I have taken 2 nice bucks(both 9 points) and 2 wild hogs, one of which was over 500 pounds. I get to hunt virtually every day and consider that fact a true blessing.
No luck here....started in 1969, have had one shot, that was in 1971 and I missed. I still have yet to take a game animal with my Recurve or Longbow! KentuckyTJ, why would or should the responses be anonymous. If someone has not been successful it's not the end of the world! I'm living proof of that! :notworthy:
I had a pretty good season. No elk, but a whitetail doe, buck, and a turkey. Now I will be heading south to scare some quail, and then looking forward to a hog hunt in the spring.
I took 3 does and 1 buck this year during our Michigan season. I did go to Colorado to chase elk, but no meat on that trip. Maybe next year.
D.P.
I was blessed to take a nice doe the 2nd day out this season. I've only managed to go out 4 times this year. Very very low for me, but with the kids 3 and 1 and working so much it has to take the back burner. I still have a couple weeks left and should have time to get after a turkey(or whatever) once or twice for Christmas shutdown.
My son and I each got Elk this year, and we shot numerous Hogs. Freezers are both full and we are eating as fast as we can to make room for the next ones.
I've got 3 deer down this year. Two of them with in 20 yards and one under perfect conditions at 35 yards. A friend of mine has two with his recurve.
I have been lucky to harvest 4 deer with my longbow.this is my 4th year hunting with trad.Been lucky to be in the right place at the right time.Missed my share in 4yrs also. Two this year but did take a nice fat doe.If I win or lose I still win by being out there.
Quiet this year, but have are fortunate to live in a place where I can hunt a lot of different game.
I've taken Black-tail, White-tail, Mule deer, Bear, Moose, Stone's Sheep, Mt. Goat with my Chek-Mate Recurve and a Hog with my MOAB longbow.
Elk is on the top of the wish list for 2012
Ciao mi amico,
You already know the lord blessed me this year, 4 animals down in Texas this year, a ram, a fallow deer doe, whitetail doe and a buck. Not bad for an old fat man.
I have killed 2 doe so far this season and passed on a couple small bucks.
Lots of deer where I hunt, I see deer most every hunt.
This is the first time I have mentioned the 2 doe, dont know how to do pics.

Sat on the ground 3 times this year. Killed one 8 pointer, saw 6 does and 4 turkeys. One deer a year is enough for me and Momma. Killed 2 pigs last spring.
I haven't been very lucky. But I have changed my tactics and I am now seeing deer. Two a couple of weeks ago. Three a few days ago and seven tonight with a shot almost taken.
I didn't take any deer with a bow this year but it wasn't for lack of chances. I'm totally to blame for it as I didn't practice at all from a stand this past summer. Slapping arrows together on the ground but put me in a stand and I blew it every time.
Best year of my life!!! As far as seeing deer its been the best, Ive had 5 140 class deer in range and several up and comers, and one in 150's just out my range on public land(land between the lakes). I killed my best deer ever this year and in velvet (with training wheels
!["" "[dntthnk]"]("graemlins/dntthnk.gif")
:D ).
This isn't a final count, going to try and make a few more hunts before Dec 31st.
So far 3 deer, 11 hogs. Hope to get another hog or 3 over the next 10 days.
I have yet to draw the bow string on an animal this year...but if you could get a glimpse of my life you would see, I am a VERY lucky man!
I ALWAYS enjoy your posts Felix! :wavey:
Ive taken 1 whitetail buck, 4 whitetal does, a sika doe, and 4 pigs since the 1st of Sept. Still have till the end of Jan till this season is over.

this is my 7th year hunting with a stickbow and I have filled all my archery tags every year. even got a black bear last year with my longbow. there have been a few years the last tag was filled the last week or two of the season though.
I always did the same with a wheel bow but man o man is the stick WAAAAY more fun.
you guys that have yet to get an animal with your stick just keep at it because when it happens you'll have a rush that you'll remember as long as you live.
good luck to all
&
Merry Christmas
took two animals this year....white tailed deer and mule deer.....three animals last year..usually get one animal each year and if the freezer is mostly full I pass on alot of animals...but where I live we have great hunting....
One 11 pt P/Y buck and 2 does this year.
I consider myself very blessed with all areas of my life,I'm 42 years old now and am just finishing up my 28th year of bowhunting in Western N.Y. I've killed 22 deer in those years with a bow and 20 of them were with a stickbow.
3 does and 1 buck and 1 pig so far this year. Deer season goes thru the 2nd week of January. Hogs are year round!
I took 2 doe and a nice 8 pt. buck. No pics due to camera malfunction.
A buck and Doe and a wild turkey. Missed 2 coyotes. :archer:

Ron, The main reason I posted that is because the results would be much easier to see in a poll.

I got this buck on October 30th which was a little over a month after donating a kidney to my wife. It was like he was sent my way, I was in the stand only 15 minutes, he went down in 60 yards and my friend was hunting with me so he could lift it into my truck for me. I blessed year for me for sure. I also took my first song dog in Kansas.

KentuckyTJ, I guess that makes sense....... but it's cool to see who has been "Lucky" and where they are from....I may have to move before I'm to old to do this anymore.
I've been very lucky..
Sept 2 mule deer
Sept 5 cow elk
Oct 23 white tail buck!
Mohawk 55# long bow and woodsman b/head
I have taken 3 does, 1 buck ( 6 points) this year.
Shot a really big 8 point on second day of bow season that I was not able to recover unfortunately.
Also missed one buck.
I hunt a huge area of public land that covers 10's of thousands of acres. The deer population average is 3 deer per square mile. there are not many hunters during the bow season on the mountain I hunt, but lots of hikers due to the Appalachian trail cutting through the middle of my hunt area. I have hunted probably 12 times this year. I have shot two deer and missed two. I think I had a pretty good year.
