FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS I HAVE HOSTED A HOG HUNT FOR A FRATERNITY OF 12 TRADITIONAL BOWHUNTERS ON A LARGE RANCH IN WEST TEXAS.THESE GUYS COME FROM ALL DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE COUNTRY.ALONG WITH THE REGULARS A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT GUYS COME EACH YEAR.WHAT I HAVE NOTICED IS THE DISPROPORTIONAL NUMBERS OF LEFT HANDED TRADITIONAL HUNTERS.USUALLY AT LEAST 50% ARE LEFTIES AND ON OCASSION THEY OUTNUMBERED THE RIGHT WINGED BOYS.STATISICALLY LEFTIES COMPRISE APROX 16 % OF THE POPULATION SO I WAS CURIOUS TO KNOW IF ANY OF YOU HAS NOTICED THIS CORRELATION TO LEFTIES AND TRADITIONAL ARCHERY IN YOUR GROUPS OR MAYBE A COINCIDENCE IN MY CASE.JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
Us lefties are the only ones using our right mind.
;)
I don't shoot a bow left handed but do most other things left.
I do everything else right handed. Since I started shooting trad I shot lefty being left eye dominant. Felt natural right from the start!!
I am a lefty here in Missouri. Also belong to a traditional bow club with only 2 or 3 lefties. Guess we are about running average around here.
WoodsyDave
I am a leftie but shoot rightie, we don't have a lot of lefties in our archery club either-hear they are all in Texas hunting hogs?
Quit yelling at us left-handers.
Lefty :bigsmyl:
I might be considered 'strange' since I shoot a Wheelie right handed and Trad Left handed. No trouble doing either one.
I shoot both RH and LH. Shoulder problems have forced me to LH but I find I'm really enjoying it.
My goal is to take one deer from each side, so far RH has one down....still got 2 tags left so I'm optimistic.
I'm left handed but due to being right eye dominant I do archery right handed.
I haven't noticed an abnormal number of lefties in my area or group.
Just a friendly FYI, Jacob... all caps is difficult to read and on the internet is considered yelling.
Guy
I started out shooting RH, even though I was LED and shot very well. I wondered if I'd shoot any better LH so I gave it a shot and within a month it just felt natural. Now I can shoot both ways without missing a beat. Pretty cool if u ask me....
Let's face it. Trade archery attracts the elite portion of hunters. The challenge is greater. Left handed people, me being lh, are definitely superior thus the higher % of lh shooters. The league I shot in had 2 lefties out of ten. The group of people I know in trade though has a fairly high number of us.
Thanks for the heads up Grey.It is interesting the feedback on the different ways people shoot regardless of eye dominance or left/right handedness.I have to admit crotch horn that it is a pleasure to be around those gifted people...plus I am able to shoot their bows!
I shoot Guns, Bows and Pool Left Handed. I write Right Handed and somethings I do Left Handed but don't realize it untill I see someone do the same thing Right Handed..I have a Split Personality I guess..lol
Hogs and Left both have four letters?

Another left eye dom. guy here..do most things righthanded, except shoot a bow.
Hey Jay: Some of the guys on the hog hunt aren't even real lefties. :) Jim
Hey Jim I was beginning to think none of you guys fooled with computers, that you were too busy shooting your bows.Good to see a famaliar face. You are still coming in Feb, right?I know I can shoot your bow, you are one of the statistics.
Keeps all my buddies from shooting my equipment!!! :biglaugh:
I'm not a real lefty but I shoot a bow left handed
Fred Bear, Ron La Clair, the folks mentioned above, me...
All right handed in my family, but my father, brother, son and I are all left eyed.
A family affair, I guess.
I'm a lefty. Fred Bear shot lefty. So I guess Im in good company.
Go Lefty & you never go Backy!! :biglaugh:
i also am on the lefty band wagon. and ill never go "backy" :biglaugh:
My wife and I both shoot left handed... strangely, my son and daughter both shoot right handed... so it's 50/50 in our family! LOL!
Hey you aren't the only one to notice the left-handed traditional shooters. Any where I go where there's longbow men I see a disproportionate number of lefties that are good shooters. Ron La Clair is one them and I'm sure he'll address this issue.
wulf
Jay: Its been snowing here so not much else to do but lurk on here. I am looking forward to the hog hunt and some warmer weather. Jim
Another lefty out in San Angelo,Texas
I tend to miss to the left when shooting my right hand bows. I would much rather miss to right, so I hunt deer mostly with my left hand bows.
the real truth is....lefties are just plain cooler!! :bigsmyl: :archer:
Chicks dig us...
we are a superior bunch of guys!
All of us great bowhunters shoot lefty;^). If it was good enough for Fred Bear then . . .
What Dave said...Left shooter here , nursing a seperated shoulder! Ouch....Merry Christmass to you Lefties and righty buds too...mark
Out of 25 guys in our local bowhunters club 3 are lefties and I am one of the 3.
Hi bofish I noticed your handle.Check out the trade a hunt forum.I might could extend that invitation to Illinois.Even could supply the left handed bows! Thanks jay
lefty but shoot right
Southpaws are definately craftier! :saywhat:  :bigsmyl:

Well said Gary
What is the deal with you righties???
It's evolution, Man. Be prepaired to be the minority! :bigsmyl:
Lefties rule! Dont like it? Well....I've got nothing. lol.
I'm a lefty that shoots "right wing", fletch, that is.
Everything lefty but swing a bat. The coach made me learn right handed when I was a kid.
Duncan
Shoot Lefty, Kick Lefty, Bat Righty and I am right handed , what the heck is wrong with me ? It appears I am in good company here. Tu Compadres, Sutty
Right handed, left eye dominant. Shot lefty all my life... we will take over the world, buddy. Just wait.
Just waiting for them to pass the law to thin those righties out of the herd. It's either that or don't let them breed.
I may be left handed but I'm still right winged!
Prof- but one thing you can't deny, Lefties are a fun bunch compared to those run of the mill righties, eh? grin
I'm a true lefty and have the first grade ruler inprints on my left hand to prove it! One thing that might explain all of the left handed archers is target panic. I know 2 RH guys who had TP so bad they switched to LH and another that called me tonight considering it.
Personally, I don't think that makes much sense to do....but I'm not going to argue, its more LH bows for me to try/shoot....grin
Lefty, and proud of it!
Beendare:
Funny you should mention righties with TP switching to lefty. A friend of mine has recently done the same thing, and it seemed to work for him.
Im right handed for everything, except trad bows. Left eye dominate and it works for me. 8^) As for the majority being left, I dont find that. Im 1 of 3-4 out of 30 guys on my league. Also when looking thru the classifieds, the left handed bows are few and far between.
I'm RH but Left-eye dominant. Beendare is right in my case re: why I switched from Right to Left in 1996 after shooting right for 28 years. I had target panic so bad it was about to run me out of archery. I had tried all the "remedies" as this thing grew progressively worse over an eleven year period.
Since I'm left-eye dominant it made sense to switch. The TP was instantly gone, with the very first arrow. To prevent TP on the left side it was important that I learn what causes TP and how to prevent it which I also did. I'm convinced if one doesn't focus on the process of shooting over the result, TP will result. Worthy results are a by-product of correct process and thinking.
What I have learned from all of comments is that an archer who shoots with his left hand does not a lefty make. Thanks Guys
