I heard it is illegal in michigan? i am in illinois. It legal here
It is legal for bullfrogs in Washington. Not for native frogs.
legal in ohio! Love those frog legs!
Yes, it is illegal to hunt them with a bow here in Michigan but legal with a spear or gig. Go figure.? I'm not a big fan of the DNR here. Most of the time they don't seem to know what they are doing.
Good for bullfrogs and greenfrogs in Missouri.
Scott
Legal in Kansas for bullfrogs and Leopard frogs
Legal in Texas but you need a hunting license.
Legal in NY. You need a small game license to hunt them with a bow.
Legal in OK for bow and arrow, with a fishing license.
Legal here for bull frogs.
Legal in Mississippi. I read from your other thread where it's illegal in Michigan and sure would like to know why.I would understand if it's a population issue and after rebounding it would be legalized. If it's about some bozos sitting around sippin tea making uneducated guesses about what should or shouldn't be shame on them. Yes this does happen in the law making proccess!
Hook/Line and by hand only in Nebraska. There's a size limit (4-1/2" vent to snout)so you must be able to catch and release.
You can use a bow in Kansas but it has to have a line attached to the arrow. Like You were bowfishing.
Never understood that one for frogs.
bretto
As you stated, it's perfectly legal here in Illinois. But we have a season and bag limits, which oddly enough, we seem to lack on nearly everything else covered by the fishing regulations.
I bowfish a lot in various parts of Michigan, and while I would enjoy shooting a frog or two, it isn't high on my to do list. I don't see a lot of frogs, they are not an invasive species, they eat insects, their calls are cool to hear while on the lakes and backwaters. Maybe that's why Michigan doesn't allow frog shooting, low frog populations and we have too many mosquitoes!
Illegal here in Nebraska after they put a size limit on them.
Hook and line,hand or net,
Legal in Arkansas.
illegal in michigan and nebraska, i dont get it, sorry to hear that. I will personally take you in my town of you want to go, i have some really good spots. Those of you who live in the "legal" frog hunting states, when is your season?
in illinois its usually in mid june
jeremy
Legal in KY, season comes in around May 15 and goes to Oct. 31. Hunting license needed for archery, fishing or hunting for gigging
It's legal here in Kentucky. Can't wait until next year.
Ok, for the folks who live in states where it's illegal, are you willing to lobby to change this?
Michigan, it's illegal? Funny, I remember kids shootin them at the GLLI in Marshall, Mi. back in the days!
I also remember someone stating, they could'nt shoot turtles with a bow.
Seems folks get so caught up with whitetails, that the FUN huttin' get's lost in it all!
Back in the mid 80's we had some folks get ticketed for bowhunting frogs in the Canton, Il area. The wording of the regulations at the time left a lot to interpretation. Bows were not listed as illegal nor were they listed as legal.
Our state bow hunting organization questioned the DNR on this and was able to get it listed as legal. When I asked the director about this he told me when the regs were written bows had not been considered and no one had asked about it. There was no legitimate reason for not allowing bows and it was a simple matter to rewrite the regs with no legislative action required.
From that experience that same year we also got a couple of other things changed simply by asking for it. Picking up and keeping shed antlers on private property, and bowhunting waterfowl.
In those states where bowhunting frogs is now illegal it wouldn't hurt to make enquiries with your DNR. Unless they have legitimate reasons for keeping it illegal, you may not have a season simply because no one has asked for it.
very good thread tom, has it always been illegal in michigan and nebraska? or did something make them change the law
No I won't lobby against it here.. Without protection you won't find a frog around here with legs big enough to eat.. They are hard enough to find anyway.
earl e, why dont we trade a froghunt for a pheasant hunt. lol, even trade. or i can put you on my biggest frog and you put me on that drop tine buck in your avatar pic?
i will miss i promise
What are frogs? (I never see them here). Gary
Jeremy,, The drop tine aka Blade is long since demised.. the drops have been mounted but I believe the head is somewhere in Florida..
Pheasants around here are few and far between.. Now turkeys are a different story.
Thanks for the offer and if it was a tad closer I'd take you up on a frog hunt.
Legal in TN.
Legal here if you have a hunting license, and a 15 per day limit
