What is your favorite/best used hunting camo clothes?
Pro series leafy suit.
Usually wool plaid. I have had good luck with Cabela's Wooltimate as well. It's a very muted, relatively light colored camo. Most of the high-tech camo stuff just clumps together and shows your outline. Predator and ASAT would be exceptions to that. I haven't used ASAT, but have used predator and it works pretty well.
My go to stuff is still wool plaid though. Often have to use camo bibs because it's hard to find quiet, warm non-camo stuff. I wish they made Wooltimate bibs.
predator brown
I like the VIAS/ASAT/Predator approach to camo. But in the end, I'm not convinced it's any more effective than plaid, combined with smart hunting.
Asat and predator the rest of the stuff you look like a black blob. you need the contrast and outline break up
Predator will always get my vote !!!!!

X2
realtree hardwoods is my favorite, it disapears in the treetops, but its hard to find anymore,.....they keep coming up with something better.....so they think... ha!
its all good if you dont move.
predator patterns

Depends completely on what and where I'm hunting. There is no one pattern fits all camo.

Yep!
QuoteThere is no one pattern fits all camo.
I beg to differ, ASAT, Predator and Natgear works under all conditions and environments. Most animals only see in white, grey and black so color really doesn't matter so pick what you like in those brand names. All the rest is just marketing B.S.(looks cool)unless you are a sniper or something and are trying to hide from the human eye.
I do mostly spot and stalk and try to stick with very light colors. Lots of my shirts and t-shirts are the older predator. Wife made them and I can't seem to wear them out.
We pretty much kid ourselves since deer don't see the pattern that well. They are believed to have vision of about 20/100 with phenomenal ability to detect any movement at about any distance they can see.
The main purpose camo serves is to get money out of the hunter's pocket.
In many cases a cheap plaid shirt would do as well or better.
I laugh when I see guys trying spot and stalk wearing the nearly black camo's common in the east.
I usually stick with predator camo but the older I get the more I find myself wearing a plaid flannel shirt and a pair of bib over-alls.

That's it in a nutshell...camo is all about movement or the lack of it.
Asat, I would like to try Kuiu but not ready to spend that money yet
Asat, Cabela's Outfitter, plaid, old Woodland military surplus. Doesn't matter if you hunt smart.

Depends on the time of year and temp...Went out this morn and it was 6 degrees...at least thats what my thermometer read. Anyway, I use an olive and black pattern with my wool suit from "Columbia".
But, lately, I have been looking at plaid patterns. I like grey, orange and green. IMHO
I started using Sitka Gear last season. I mostly like the material and design (pockets, zippers, fit, durability, etc.). The pattern is at least as good as anything else.
Of course we aren't just trying to go undetected by the deer we hunt. Its also to our advantage for the turkey, jays, crows, etc. to leave our presence unannounced.
While it's been known for a long time that birds see colors well (that's why many male fowl are so colorful) research is showing that deer and other mammals detect color differences better than thought, especially blue.
I certainly agree though the very best clothing in the world can do little to hide quick or constant movement. If I feel invisible, I act invisible.
I won't do Scent Lok.
I like the Predator Deception, Cabelas Outfitter Camo and Ultimate Camo...pretty hard to beat the Ultimate for spring Turkeys!
Wool plaid. can't be beet
I dont really care about modern day camo patterns. I do like Cabelas outfitter camo. I mainly just wear wool in the plaid patterns and surplus woodland camo.
Jason
I'm a big fan of Super Advantage BreakUp Outfitter Leafy Twig 11. You've probably never heard of it, it's so cutting edge and under the radar.
I like out fitter camo in Berber fleece if it's cold enough. Blends in high and low. My warmer weather clothing is mostly predator camo.

While wearing ASAT 3-D, and hunting from the ground in Texas, I had a coyote come within two to three feet away from me, could have hit him over the head with my bow.
I also like Predator, though I haven't gotten to use it that much yet.
Predator, definitely. But any disruptive pattern with a high contrast between lights and darks will work, including plaid.
One of these days I'm going to try plaid. In fact, I'm wearing a wool plaid shirt right now that would be good, mainly green and very light tan with thinner black lines that "fuzz" it up.
As for movement, I don't think there is very much of any pattern that will disguise movement. Deer see movement better than shape and they see it very well. Turkeys are even better.
And as soon as I saw Terry G's guillie hat I made one. Good idea.
Look at Tsunstone in his pic...... that outfitter or any other light open pattern works and the black blobby hat he has on does not ! Get you a lighter open colored hat too bud.
Sorry, but no more black Mossy Oak for me. It is Predator Fall Gray or a light / dark contrast wool plaid only now. When Mason and I started hunting in trees from 50-200 yds apart instead of the same tree and made the switch to Predator Fall Gray it was obvious what works and what does not. Yesterday we were about 100 yds apart and he had on some Mossy Oak pants and I could see them plain as day compared to his Predator top. His legs were, " Black ", compared to his top. JMHO
TwoTracks Custom Camo (Wool Vest), Mirage Leafy Wear, Timber Ghost. Starting to like the Predator& ASAT stuff.
My primary camo is my ASAT 3D Leafy Suit. I wear it early to late season. On the ground or in a treestand.
Beneath it, early season I wear cotton pants and shirts, and if its cool, merino wool ase layer. AS the temps drop, I add a wood sweater, fleece vest and either wool pants or wool bibs. I love the leafy suit as I can wear it over any clothes. Now I shop for clothes that perform for the climate I intend to hunt, and not worry about if I can get the clothes I want in the pattern i want. Im sold on ASAT. Predator is good too, used it for years, but like ASAT even more.
Another vote for Predator "Deception".
Winterhawk1960
The old school Tree Bark camo. Awesome stuff.
Natural Gear and Predator are my favorites.
Natural Gear and Predator are my favorites.
I'm predicting that in a few years we're going to see the big camo makers moving away from MOBU-type stuff, and more and more toward patterns that incorporate the same concepts as Predator, ASAT, VIAS, etc.
But how much do you want to bet that they'll make it sound like a 'revolutionary' new concept that they just came up with?
Yep, knew that when a few years ago the, " New " Vertigo came out. Only trying to copy what Predator and other open patterns already know.
I like KOM in the blowdown pattern.
I have a set of bibs and a light jacket in an old pattern called ShapeShifter. LOVE it. Too bad it no longer available. Its a pine pattern. Sweet.
ASAT...from NY to Jersey and Maine..

I like wool plaid best while my son seems to prefer the sasquatch pattern. I'll leave it to you to figure out who is who.

Plaid, cotton when warm, wool when it cools down
Depending on where I'm hunting and what time of the year it is. With that said, I use Predator camo.
My three favorites and I have lots of outfits for each. They are Spring Green, the discontinued Fall Brown and Fall Gray.
BTW, I don't care for the Deception series.
Kahn....... :biglaugh:
I used natural gear this year and like it alot. Its muted out pattern just disolves into the background.
ASAT and Cabelas Outfitter seem to have worked whether on the praries or in the mountains.
Joe skipp, those pics are awesome and show how the open pattern and light background colors keep you from, "blacking out", like most patterns. Those pics would show this even more if they were taken from a further distance. It is amazing how good ASAT, Predator, and other open patterns look versus most patterns with a little distance added. A real eye opener when your hunting buddy knows your general area and still has to, "hunt", to find you, yet you can see him at will.
I'm very fond of just good ole wool plaid. My favorite camo is ASAT hands down! Makes you invisible. Great for ground hunting! I still have my ole Treebark pants though. Had plenty of success wearing them.
Predator and outfitter pattern

Cabelas Outfitter and Predator SG for patterns, though I've found myself starting to use more solids (foliage, coyote, OD) and the Shaggie suit.
I still wear a plaid wool shirt for opener though, it's tradition!
Here is ASAT from a distance...just in front of one of my natural hiding spots.
predator, outfitter camo, wool plaid in the trees gillie suit on the ground
I use plaid and KOM autumn brown mostly now. I still have soft spot for original TreeBark and Mossy Oak Treestand.
I like wool plaid and wear solid green wool pants alot, love KOM Blowdown as well.
depends on where Im hunting...
- when I hunt early season in the thick stuff I use some German army surplus flecktarn camo. Works unbelievably well.
- when I hunt late season in the thick stuff Ill use advantage, mossy oak, or whatever type commercial camo.
- On occasion I hunt in some very open up-land gallery forest where it doesn't matter what you wear, the deer will see you unless you're hiding behind a tree trunk or lying on your belly! Honestly this is my favorite territory to hunt.

He made that a couple of years ago. Think if he were going to do it again, he'd probably make it a little less... dense but when he's standing still, he's pretty hard to see.
ASAT since it came out - used it from Florida to Saskachewan (http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee131/pdj317/003-14.jpg)
Timber ghost. Been using it for about 10 yrs.
