Title: Big Shot or Cross Over.
Post by: ChrisM on December 07, 2011, 08:09:00 PM
I am in search of the perfect shooting glove and these american Leathers look great.
I like my Dura Glove as far as the Nylon goes but the two I have have taken a crease.
I like the plastic inserts on my hill glove but the plastic doesn't go past my first joint and that is where I hold the string and the shape of my fingers it is uncomfortable.  I can get a better release with the hill if I am careful on where I put the string.  The Dura I can feel the string catch on my middle finger and will cause alot of string vibration.

So my question first is whill the Big shot take a crease?
Next on the Cross over does the plastic inserts go past the first joint a bit?

I will add that I have tried lots of tabs and they work great up to about 55lbs but my 60lb longbow I get finger soreness and I like the speed of getting on the string with a glove better.

Thanks.

Look at Stick tite gloves on the BW site. I have American Leather gloves and they are good but I like the stick tite better - longer stalls and I don't have the one with nylon stalls just the leather ($17.00). Shooting bows in the 55-65 range - good protection and I have better string feel than the American leather product. Check them out.

Chris,

the crossover has a little longer stalls than a typical insert glove.  I actually had to trim some leather from the inside of mine where the stall meets the second finger joint.  One cool thing about John,  the gloves are guaranteed, if you don't like it, send it back....

the design of the crossover with the nylon inside the stalls keeps the stall from getting too stiff.  They aren't as stiff as the standard insert type gloves yet you get plenty of protection and very good release

The Black Widow PDQ glove has long stalls and with an overlay of leather.

The Bigshot is a good glove, but, the one i have creased very quickly.

no experience with the crossover, but, would like to hear more about them.

Sunset Hill,
Still using the crossover? and what is your opinion now? Thinking about ordering one. Thanks

I have both of these gloves, they are great gloves. But I still think the finger stalls are two short as well. I shoot either the Kustom King Deer skin, or the Neet Deer skin gloves most of the time. But like I said I like both the Crossover and Big Shot gloves also, very well made.

Agreed on finger stalls too short on the crossover!

I had a black widow glove but a puppy chew on it!     :nono:

I still like my crossover but will order a BW soon

I have two big shots and love them.  I didn't like the plastic in the new crossover design - just couldn't feel the string at all.  I'd like to try their wet shot, the way it's described it sounds like the stalls might fit a little tighter.

You guys must have a really deep hook. I've got super long fingers and have no problems with the stalls being too short.

I got a Big shot in buffalo leather.  I could not be happier.  Took about a 3 days to get it cofortable but wow what a release.  I can say that this is hands down the best glove I have used.  It gives me the convience of a glove and the release of a tab.

I just got mine a couple days ago, very nice. The string comes off like a "hair trigger".

I know you said that tabs dont work the best, have you tried any of the tabs from black widow. They have some that have some really good padding. You actually have to break them in sort of. You might check them out. They have several to choose from and they really take the pressure of the fingers. Ive used them before when my fingers were to sore to shoot anything else and they were comfortable.

Anyone have some recent reviews/comments on the Crossover glove?

Although I shoot a 3-under tab, I have a Big Shot and have to say its the best glove I've ever used.

I bought a crossover from Big Jim at Denton Hill last year and carried it along on one of the courses.  I tried one shot with it.  To be honest, I didn't care for the string "feel" aspect, but then again.....I really didn't give it much of a chance.  I just put it away.

That glove is now listed on one of the St. Jude's auction forums.  Those that want to try one.....here's a chance to own one that is basically brand new.  Ya just have to wait for the auction!!

Big Shot for me was the glove i have always needed.

I shot the dura glove before but was not satisfied. The Big shot does require a little break in period, but once its broken in, theres nothing better IMHO.

I love the crossover and find it to feel much better than the big shot. It is my preffered glove.

course it is all subjective.

I agree with Big Jim.  In my case, I didn't like the Crossover until I broke it in by shooting with it for a couple weeks.  Now, it is THE glove I shoot and my Big Shots are my back ups.  Liking the Crossover or Big Shot is a matter of personal preference and your equipment set up.  Both gloves are excellently made by a great guy who backs up his sales, should you have a problem.

Some previous comments related that the stalls were not long enough on the Crossover but mine come almost into the second joint on my fingers.  The stalls are now smooth, slick and my release is the best I have ever had.  You need to try one!
