I have only ever got to share camp once with fellow traditional hunters. It was a deer camp in Missouri. I am planning and looking to put together a spring bear hunt in NW Montana It will be a spot and stalk hunt. My wife will be coming with. She is not sure she wants to shoot a bear yet, as this will be her first bow hunt but she loves the outdoors and I am happy she has taken up traditional shooting. We would like to get four to six hunters to share camp with and if you are a husban wife couple that would be great or maybe if you have a young hunter that you would like to bring that would be great also. I have not set any dates yet but we where planing to go over for a week tags are over the counter. but you have to take a bear test from fish and game before you can buy a tag. If you would be interested let me know. Thanks
Gary,
I'm in MT. Keep me posted, I might drive over.
Thanks,
Doug
Gary, I am from Missouri. I have never hunted bear, but have been thinking about it. Probably should do a guided hunt first to get the hang of it.
Anyway, What is the bear test all about? I have hunted deer for 30 years, so am not new to bowhunting, just new to hunting bear.

The test is for identification. They have pictures of both black and grizzly bear photos and you have to identify what species. Trip sounds like fun. Scott
Doug I will let you know...
Dave Scott is right Montana makes you pass the test to make sure you can tell them a part. this hunt will consist of hiking looking for sign and glassing when the bears are found thats when the stalk begins. Bears have poor eye sight but very good noses In my opinion they are not to hard to get close to as long as you have the wind.
Here Are some pics of what the area is like and our 2010 season.

Gentry, I am interested.
Gentry, I knew some Gentry's from Mont. growing up.What part of the stare are you from,if you don't mind me asking? I rodeo'd some in that country years ago and was wondering.
I would be packing a flyrod too!!! How much for lic.?
Gentry, I might be interested, please keep me in the loop. Rev
tags are $350 for NR $10 for conservation $10 archery stamp.
Those guys are as big as a griz!
LOL... Scott The griz are a Little bigger. I cut a nice griz track a few years ago not to far from here and tracked it up and over the mountian then spotted it and put a stalk on. I got within 60 yards of a really nice mature boar. I figured I better not push it to much and stopped there, but I got some really good pictures on film. I cant wait for the day that Montana gives us some griz tags. Although I guess that dose not mean I will kill one even if I have a tag. I just like stalking and watching bears. I dont have to kill one to have a good time. When I was In Alaska I could have killed a number of bears but only came home with a bunch of memories.
I may be interested. Keep us posted.
Michael
Gary,I would be interested too!
I am Thinking of a date of April 29 to May 6 that puts the hunt right in the middle of the season. Its hard to say when the better dates would be. so I think we should have it this week I have always liked the first week may any way. There is also a nice flat off a creek that I am hoping to get for a camp there is plenty of room for a couple camp trailers and or tents. There is no telling how much snow there will be higher up or on the north facing slopes so getting some places with a pickup might not happen. But there is plenty of grassy south facing slopes to hunt. I have never set up a hunt before and can not promise anyone that they will get a bear this is all public land and 100% wild free roming bears we could see a bunch and we might see very few. It looks like there is a few people interested so I will work on making up some maps of the area. I would like to keep the number of hunters down to 8 plus me and the wife would make 10. I would like to invite every one but we all know that would not make for a very good hunt. a good time I am sure but not a good hunt. So let me know if you are in and I will send you a map of where we will be hunting and camping. I dont just want to post that kind of info online for the whole world to see. I hope that dose not sound bad or anyone takes offince to that it is just I have spent a lot of time scouting and hunting there and it is public land and dont want to do home work for the whole world.
No pressure Gary....just sounds like fun.I imagine we are not too far apart, I am in Sandpoint. I could come up with a few wall tents and stoves. Keep me posted
StickBow you are more then welcome to come over and hunt You are closer to where I hunt bears then I am right now. I live in NE Montana. Here for the work but we have been considering moving back over to that corner of the state. Do you Know a hound hunter over that way by the Name of Dustin Myers? I bought a hound from him last year. He runs bears and lions.
I know a few hounders but that name doesnt ring a bell.
I hope this thing comes together, it could be fun. I am close enough to spokane I might be able to pick some one up at the airport.
