Title: what do ya'll know bout RER bows?
Post by: Covey on December 03, 2011, 09:55:00 PM
I really like the looks of these bows but don't know much about them. Performance, finish, etc... Are they static tip limbs? Information is greatly appreciated!

Quiet, very fast, very nice craftsmanship, and reasonably priced.  And yes, static tips.

I have two of them - take down recurve and the retro recurve.  Love them both.  The retro is a 50 style grip - absolutely the quietest bow I have ever shot.  The take down is almost as quiet.  Both are at about 50# and really zip an arrow.  Craftsmanship is excellent - bought the take down new from Kevin and Sue - won't find anyone nicer.  I called and talked to Kevin for more than half an hour about what I was looking for in a bow etc.  He was very helpful.  The one piece I picked up here on tradgang.  Worth looking into.  Goodluck.

I live about 25minutes from Kevin and Sue, owners of RER, and I'll tell you what I know.  The bows are top notch in all regards, performance, finish, customer service, you name it.  I sent my brother in law to them last year to get his first "custom".  Kevin spent two hours at his house that evening and asked my brother as many questions as was asked of him.  Point being he was really trying hard to fit him with the best bow.  They went through different wood choices/combos and once he narrowed down his options, Kevin brought out different blocks of raw wood so my brother could pick the one with the grain pattern he preferred.  Once the riser was completed, Kevin met my brother halfway between their homes so he could feel the grip and make any suggestions prior to finish.  Bottom line, the service was above and beyond.  They offer quite a variety of different models, but all the recurves have the static tips.  Aside from being the bowyer, the entire family are avid hunters and competitive shooters.  Sue, and their daughter Emily are top in the state of Wisconsin in their divisions, and their son Austin faired well at the IBO this summer.  Kevin's hunted all over and when he makes a recommendation, you know its from field experience.  I can honestly say I've never heard one negative comment about RER bows.  Hope this helps.

I have one that I got 6 or 7 years ago.... One of the best bows     I have ever shot. I have 3 guys who will buy it from me in a moments notice. 58" 3 pc T/D 40# @ 28" Tamo Ash limbs and ash and walnut riser. At Compton in Michigan 3 years ago Ken Beck of Black Widow walked up to me and said it was the prettiest bow he ever saw....I was floored. Oh by the way......it's not going anywhere!!

I have 3 and love all of them.  Actually one riser, and 3 sets of limbs for it.  Your not to far From Kalamazoo, MI, we ave a HUGE Traditional Expo there at the end of January.  RER is usually there.  Come up, and test drive a chit load of the best looking/performing bows made.  There are tons of vendors to choose from.

Is that a plug or what?!?! HAHA.

Good luck in your search. I've owned this Vortex and an Arroyo. Both absolute performers...

You won't be dissapointed with an RER in your line-up!

I just received a CXR today.  First impressions are:  excellent workmanship, very comfortable and repeatable grip, good performance, great balance, easy accuracy.  I am really liking this bow as it seems to fit me and my style very well.  It also matches my preference asthetically.

I had an RER Arroyo, it was a great recurve.  Quietest recurve I have shot.  I am just a longbow guy so I sold it.

I've been through just about every type of bow out there, and most of the well known names in my seemingly never ending quest to find "The One".  My RER LX 3 piece t/d longbow is "IT".  My search is over for the perfect bow.

(I have since developed an interest in old bows, but that's another issue    )

If  you are interested in numbers and "bow science" we tested my bow in "ready-to-hunt conditions (8" brace height, silencers on string) under shooting machine at 28" draw and bow scale on the french trad bowhunting forum: here is the bow review: it shows very good performance and smooth bow

One of the best there is, I own 2 right now and have owned at least 5 others. Mine are both recurves one XR take-down and a one piece Arroyo. They are very fast and very quiet and very easy shooters. Kevin and Sue are the best and the quality of their bows is second to none. You really will not find a better bow out there! Shawn

One of the only two bows on my bow rack that has found a home. The other is an RER recurve also.
In MHO, one of the best out there.

The comments above are filled with WELL-DESERVED superlatives about the TerMaats and their bows.  I can't add a thing.

Wait a minute . . . I CAN add something:  My new RER recurve is scheduled to arrive in 6 weeks, and I'm starting to get really excited about the prospect.

amazing bows. I have a xr and it's done a number on the two does i shot this year. Finish is amazing and if you have any problems kevin and sue will be there to fix it. It was my first custom recurve and it's always going to stay on my rack.

I've had several RER's: 2 of the original recurves, 1 XR and 1 Vortex.  I love the original recurve the best.  I believe that model has been replaced with the "Vital" which is number 1 on my wish list.

They make one of the finest bows I've ever owned.  I've spoken with Kevin and Sue on many occasions and have always found them to be top notch.  These folks keep their word and go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied.  Really the best custom buying experience I've ever had.

I have a 58" Arroyo.  It is smooth, fast and quiet.  The workmanship is superb.  Sue and Kevin were a pleasure to deal with.
