Ok here is the thing...First of the year I will hopefully be getting a new long bow....I have not shot many at all, so I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on some quite longbows.. I think that my whip is quite but just wondering of some others that are shooter friendly and quite...
Don Dow stik is by far the quietest bow I have shot. Even queter than most self bows. I think people should compare decible meter readings instead of chrony's. :D
Rob
Mild reflex deflex bows are very shooter frendly and more quiet than other designs . I would recommend a Mohawk longbow .
My friend has a ACS that is almost silent, just 2 string leeches on it, he shoots very heavy arrows.....700 gr +.
I think just about any longbow with a fairly heavy arrow and a pair of catwhiskers is extremely silent. To me it all depends on how heavy of an arrow you shoot. I can prove this by shooting a fishing arrow through any bow.
I had a Beeler LB and it was the quietest bow I have ever shot, even with me shooting 3-under and NO string silencers.
My JK Kanati is dang quiet as well.
A&H ACS CX are extremely quiet.
Too many to list. Of the ones I've shot and been impressed with are: Thunderstick M.O.A.B, TreeStick,Whippenstick,Toelke Whip & a Centuar.
If I had to pick from that list I'd go with the Whippenstick because it's not only dead in the hand and quite it's one of the fastest.
I will third the ACS CX! Mine is super quiet with a couple of yarn puffs.
x2 for Whippenstick!!!I have also a ACS CX and a Centaur they are great bows for sure !!! But like Mike... if I had to pick one...it would be the Whippenstick.
Shrew by far!!
Haven't shot an animal yet this year... my longbow has literally made no sound at all. :(
If you ever get a chance....shoot a Big River, talk about quiet and no handshock at all...and I mean it..... Some people claim their bow has no handshock but until I shot a Big River, I found out what NO HANDSHOCK really feels like! jMO!
My RER LX is extremely quiet, even with 3 under shooting. Only a pair of beaverballs on the string, and medium weight arrows.
Am going to add you really need to go shoot some bows first other wise it's really like rolling the dice at the crap table. I use to go to every shoot near me traveling 100's of miles for a few of them, not to shoot but only to get my hands on every freaking bow I could and try it out.
All am going to say is I tried bows that you will find rave reviews about that cost $1000 and a year wait or better and if I went that route sight unseen I'd would want to beat the bower over the head with it. Some hurt so bad I almost dropped the bow and you will read guys saying "Dead in the hand"
Most bowers will send you a bow to check out if you send them a check to hold and all it will cost you is shipping fees and it will save you a ton of heart ache and disappointment.
Good luck
My 58" Kempf longbow with a TS-1 string is dead quiet when shooting aluminum and wood.
Tomahawk!
Qarbon Nano with beaver silencers doesn't make a sound with a good form.
My Appalachain Savage River recurves both the 58 and 62 with cat whiskers balls (no sound)just :archer2:

This is spot on Advice!
There's a reason why many shooters of Hills and bows of similar design choose to not use string silencers at all. The design is efficient (a.k.a, quiet).
As far as ease of use, hold a Hill the right way and it's not an issue any more than it is for other types of bows.
Owned a lot, a real lot of longbows and the two quietest by far, no nothing but the string on them. It was pretty much a tie between a 7 Lakes Short Night and a Roy Hall Cherokee, I owned several of the ones mentioned and none came close to these 2 bows. Most could be made very quiet but needed a heavy arrow or silencers on the string, not the two mentioned. Shawn
Well, I think your whip will rate right up there with the best of them with the right set up. I have two Centuars and a Mohawk shooting 630 gr arrows and wiskers that are very very quiet.
Thanks all for the response
I will agree with Shawn about Roy Halls' bows.I shot a Caddo that was the most silent bow I've ever shot.
My selfbows are as quiet as any, no string silencers needed.
the quietest and noisiest bow could easily be the same brand and model bow. there is no overall, over riding best of anything in trad archery, and most other things in life.
Any bow made by Ed Scott/Owl Bows.

Agreed! My ACS CX was whisper quiet!
Leon Stewart Slammer
Toelke Whips are real quiet
you need to try as many as possible as what might be quiet for one person will be shocky and loud for another..it comes down to personal preference but 98% of the bows out there can be quieted down with various techiques and methods so like some said..try as many as you can and go from there..
Quiet is an important quality in a hunting bow and many bowyers have done a good job with it. My Great Northern Critter Gitter is as quiet as any I have shot.
Every bow has a personality of its own. If you go to a shoot and try one out that you really like, buy that bow. Another bow in the same model may not feel the same.
A self bow shooting a wood arrow is the quietest I've ever shot.
I was shooting next to my brother yesterday and his northern mist is pretty quiet. My Mad Dog is a lot quieter than the bow I was shooting.
Northern Mist
My old toelke whip was sure quiet. Next would likely be a Northern Mist Shelton, super silent. However, I think the quietest bow I have ever shot and barely heard is my Owl Hunter bow ... it is amazingly quiet. It is the quietest bow I have ever shot hands down.
Bob.
the efficient use of energy is the reaon that some of the quietest bows are also some of the fastest bows. If the bow is using all its energy and its being properly transferred to the arrow then its not being wasted on vibration and noise. Sooooooooooo a bow that is properly tillered, limbs in sync. and is properly designed will be. First fast, second, quiet,. third shock free. In other words it will have all of the attributes that everyone wants in a bow.
Hense! you have some of the fastest bows built,. Whippenstick, ACS ect being touted as bows that are quiet. You can include my bows and several others in that list.
There is no reason a bow has to be a slow bow to be quiet. In fact some of these fast bows you can hunt with with very little or no string silencers on them at all.
God bless you and have a Great Christmas, Steve
Been through a bundle of them and form me I've had and have a few that are bordering silent!
My Beeler Tracker
my 64" Griffin
Thunderstick III
I found all of these to be Really Really quiet .
Shrews with the wood core limbs, quietest I've shot. It is also the bow that shoots best for me so what more could I ask for.

Like Rob said. You could have two identical bows, and all of the other subsequent choices - string (strand count and material), silencers, brace height, arrow choice, bow quiver, etc. could make all the difference between a totally silent bow and one you can hear in the next county. There is no one "quietest" bow.
I have a friend that has a Mahska long bow 53@28.
That thing is DEAD quiet with nothing on the strings and useing a 565 grain arrow
doug77
I've never shot anything more quiet than an Owl Bow, by Ed Scott. About all you hear is the string leaving the tab and feathers catching air.
Design, timing and tiller makes a quiet bow. I would imagine that a good bowyer would build a consistant bow. When you get identical bows that are inconsistant. One quiet and one loud it speaks more of the bowyer than it does of the bow. Unless they are factory bows. Then you will get inconsistancy simply because they are not taking the time to accurately time the limbs.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it LOL.
God bless you all, Merry Christmas, Steve
Great Northern Bushbow is the quietest bow I've ever shot.
My Dan Toelke Super D is one of the most quiet bows I have owned. My Kota Badlands that I just passed on to another member here is also very quiet. I have had several very quiet bows actually and I miss some very much.
