I generally try and make my arrows halfway attractive, but I am going to make a valiant attempt to shoot some Arizona quail before too long, so I think i will need some high visibility arrows. These would gag a maggot, but they sure ought to be able to be seen when they end up in some cholla thicket.

Anybody else make less than attractive arrows for purposes like stump shooting or small game?
-
Gee I didn't know there was such a thing as an ugly arrow. :)
-
ugly is wright :)
-
Ive flash burned my eyes many times in my carreer as a welder but never from arrows till now. :biglaugh: Good luck on your hunt.
-
I doubt you'll lose any but if I find those laying around in my AZ Quail haunts I know who to return them to.
-
They are all beautiful flying off the string..
-
I dont know what a cholla thicket is but i think your arrows look sharp!!! Like tracer rounds!!!
-
LOL.....UGLY???? I like'm
-
Did you fletch RW feathers in a LW jig?
Those aren't ugly! They look better than my best arrows! :D
-
I make some ugly arrows also, they are yellow and red striped like a barber pole and use hot pink feathers. They are weird enough that they are easy to see out in the woods.
-
I was expecting to see some "ugly" arrows & I like em... But then again if it's not bright NEON it's not loud enough. ;)
-
Trouble is you will never loose them. ;)
-
Geesh....those are kinda ugly! I hope you find them and get your limit of quail.

Probably land a plane with those things.LOL
-
Good visible colors there. I would say that you did a fine job in accomplishing your goal.
They may not win any beauty contests, but you will be able to find them. Good job.
-
Oughta be able to see them babies, they sure are ugly. LOL
-
Good luck losing those ugly puppies! LOL!
-
Unplug those things! LOL
-
y'know... I'm hunting in the snow right now with my white wraps and white nocks and white four fletch feathers and those look pretty damn good to me.
:knothead:
-
Here's some that were called ugly: maybe it's the pyschodelic wraps?

Good luck with the quail, sounds like fun.
-
Owlbait, groovy.
-
All I read here tells me you're a dead-eye...
And we all know that the arrow falls where the bird does, right?
You'll just use them beacon arras to find your downed quail, ain't? :)
-
Doc,
If you would have seen my shooting at a turkey a few hours ago, you would know that I am no dead eye. It wasn't pretty.
-
Let us know how you do. And if you come across and old guy with a yellow lab and a 20 gage that could be me. I can't hit them with a shotgun let alone a bow.

You may see them ion the Challa thicket but chose not to go after them.
Its like that in our mulitfloral rose thickets.
I am fixing up some arrows for my nephew (age 4). They will have the ugly arrow contest beat!
I will post pics when done.
-
Yeah, prickly pears are child's play compared to those dang jumping cactus.
RonL, I might see you out in the desert. I will be out around Queen Valley. Lots of those little running quail out there.
-
to each their own
-
my arrows are GT nuge arrows. they are pink zebra strip aand have white feathers. i dont care what my arrows look like as long as they fly good and i can find them after i miss. haha
-
TTT
working on the uglies now. ;)
just wanted to keep this in sight for easy finding when I am done :readit:
Gotta show off the hideous things but you young ones might want to close your eyes.
-
I think Id stick with the shot gun
-
yup they are ugly!
-
As promised. Here are my uglies. I fixed up some old arrows that were laying around, painted them with paint I already had and fletched them with feathers which were generously offered by a fellow tradganger Statedriller. Thank you. They will go great with his new bow for Christmas.

Capped with Blaze Orange. Crested with Blue and Black. Fletched with green an white.
Oddly enough, I actually like them :saywhat: :knothead:
-
Man, there isn't a clump of grass those arrows will be able to hide in... :D
-
Yep, those babies are ugly as a mud fence. Not that mine are much to brag about.
-
Ugly is good ......no one will steal your arrows :biglaugh:
-
Figured Oliver, age 4 will be digging these out of the grass. Not only were they CHEAP but they will do, until I can make him some nice ones in a year or so.
He will be shooting at balloons from 10 yards or less for the winter.
Everytime he goes to Grandpas he asks to shoot the bows. Albeit his attention span is short, he seems to love it.
-
Can you imagine if we'd have gotten into this at that young age! Wow! We'd either be wore down to a nub or darned good at it by now!
Excellent.
When they slither under the grass, don't matter how bright they are...but in the leaf duff, it does help!
I kinda like them... like some of those fancy pheasants, eh? :)
