Hello gang-
I'm really beat, it's been a long day. I left the house this morning to hunt one of the WMA's about an hour away from me. When I was almost there, I realized that my phone was still at home, so I had to stop at Walmart to pick up something to tell the time. I had no idea where it was, so I stopped at the gas station to get directions. Once I had a watch, it was time to go hunting.
I got into an area that showed alot of signs of deer and hogs were traveling. I brought my campchair and sat down. I sat down from 6:45 to 1:30 using my binoculars, but I saw nothing.
After I got packed up, I decided to stalk hunt on the way back to my car. I walked around some different areas hoping to see something.
As I came to a fork in the road, I heard some very loud grunting that was coming from underneath a bunch of palmettoes. The palmettoes was thick and the grass in front was very high.
I set my camp chair down, so I could be dead silent, as I walked closer to the palmettoe bush. Then, I saw this multi-colored beast come out from behind the the palmettoes. It was facing directly towards me about 12yards away. If this shot was gone to happen, I needed to draw slow, but fast enough to make the shot. I brought my Hill bow up, and I pulled back on the string bring the arrow back. At that moment the hog turned to the right, and I loosed the arrow hitting the hog on it's side.
The hog jumped like a broncing bull, running back into the palmettoes. I waited about 10 minutes, then I decided it was time to go searching. I found the hog laying on it's side about 30yards away. It was a complete passthru with my Howard Hill Big 5.

Well done!!
That hog sure is purty but that bow is even purtier! Way to go!! Glad to see a guy gettin' it done on public ground. I can't wait to get down south somewhere and chase the pigs!
possumhead-
It weighed 108lbs, with 1 3/4" cutters. This was the first multi-colored hog that I shot, it was really cool looking.
Thanks,
Darren
Way to go
Great job Darren. I'm hoping to get out with your old Mohawk Classic before years end. If not we have an archery javalina season starting in January.
 Way To Go!
Flingblade-
Let me tell ya, on the WMA area that I shot this hog it's a tuff area to hunt. It's underwater almost all the time, you need rubberboots or waders. The brush is dense and thick, and the pine tress are ussally too thin for a climber treestand. Most guys are running around on a big buggy chaseing game. I almost got ran over twice in the past 10 years by a buggy.
I just enjoy being out in the woods with my longbow, that's what keeps me going.
Darren
Well Done on a nice Hog!
I think I know the type of buggies you're talking about. When my folks lived in Englewood I hunted with Archery Outfitters on my only trip down there and they had one of those buggies they used to show everyone the stands and haul hogs out with. The area wasn't tough to hunt though. I only saw one hog and it was moving way too quick and too far out for a shot. The cool thing about you're story is a quick instinctive shot like that on a turning pig would not be possible with a compound bow where you had to look through a peep site to find your pin site. I'm shooting a Black Widow recurve now but you're story makes me want to take my 70 lb. Hill Wesley Special to the woods again.
Congrats Darren. Did you hunt at Corbett?
Nice job Darren, once again the raw awesome power and deadly efficiency of a Howard Hill longbow and longbowman has been demonstrated! Now give us up some of them porkchops...

Excellant Darren. Congratson the hog with the Longbow
Thanks Everyone-
I can't wait to get out there again before the season ends. I just made up a new set of POC arrows, now I need to buy some new broadheads. My favorite broadhead has been the Magnus 2 blade.
Thanks,
Darren

Molson-
Absolutely, I got the whole hog in the smoker right now. Man it smells good.
Darren
Good shooting!
Hello Darren, did you hunt in the archery area?
bolo7735-
I hunted the archery only section last Tuesday, it was underwater about 12" or more in some places. On Thursday, I went back further and hunted in the general gun area. The weather was great to be out there, it's starting to cool down some.
Darren
Great job bud, I like the story.
