Title: Ben Pearson Memorabilia
Post by: SELFBOW19953 on November 30, 2011, 10:02:00 PM
I was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction on a box of arrows I have. Earlier this year, I traded for a box, 1 gross, of Ben Pearson arrows. On the box are several labels (see photos below), including one that shows the box was a special order and was to be sent to 20th Century Fox studios in Los Angeles. The package has to be pre-64 because there are no zip codes. I think they may have been for use on a movie set-I'm curious to know which movie.

I have sent 2 e-mails to Fox, asking to be directed to a studio historian-no reponses. Am I asking the wrong question, or the wrong person (several departments are listed, but nothing mentioning studio history)?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In the movie "Timbo" staring Howard Hill I remember seeing a large box with Ben Pearson Archery on it. It might have said "Arrows" or I just asumed it was arrows. Either way I remember thinking it was strange that Howard Hill would be shooting someone elses arrows.

Ben Pearson archery made all of Howard's arrows (10 gross=1440 arrows) for his Africa hunt.  He had them then shipped to Hugh Rich in California to be checked for straightness, sorted into grade 1 or 2 or small game.  This info can be found in Bob Burton's book "Howard Hill Collectibles" on page 88.

Thanks David,

That is interesting info. Back in the mid 60's I lived in Pine Bluff and was in and out of the factory all the time, had several friends working there it was an interesting place, also they had an archery center and outlet for Ben Pearson bows and arrows out on Hiway 79.

These arrows are definitely not hunting arrows!!!  I posted a few more pictures on the History & Collecting site.  The arrows are Model 201, with natural turkey feathers and light target points.
