Title: Tree Saddle or Treesuit
Post by: drags on July 15, 2007, 10:18:00 PM
I've been seriously considering going to either one of these products after 25+ plus years of various chain on, climbers, and ladder stands.  Both the Treesuit and Tree Saddle appear to have their pros and cons.  I have looked at the video for the Treesuit and was impressed.  While visiting Cabelas yesterday I was looking at the Tree Saddle.  They only they had was a size "S", the display model.  The sales guy checked the computer for me and said that was all they had and they're being discontinued.  Just curious if you guys that have either of these are happy with them and still using them after having for a few seasons?  Or should I reconsider?

I have been using the treesuit the last couple of seasons and I really like the comfort. The ability to shoot from some pretty akward positions without worrying about falling is priceless. I use mine in conjunction with 3 Chippewa Wedgeloc climbing sticks and a strap I made up with 4 steps on it that I place above the last stick and this gives me a step in each direction(n,s,w,e,).I like to take a nap and not being able to fall out is a real plus. Thanks for your input guys.  I just thought it kind of strange that Cabela's is dicontinuing the Tree Saddle (according to the info. obtained by the sales guy in the archery dept.) since I just noticed that they even carried them in one of their recent catalogs.  I still think I'll get one or the other here shortly unless I hear some feedback to sway my opinion otherwise.

About a month ago I purchased a leather tree saddle from Cabelas. Hard to believe they are going to discontinue them. I haven't hunted from it, but I sat in it for over an hour playing with it to make sure I wasn't going to return it. I love it. It is safe. You are connected to the tree all the time. You can even leave both straps attached when you hunt. You can pull a truck with the straps. They are tough and quiet.

You can email the folks from their site at  www.trophylineUSA.com (http://www.trophylineusa.com)  and they will send you a free DVD to check it out. They will make it right. Be sure to get you a set of Lone Wolf climbing sticks to go with it.

I use the treesuit and like it. The position of facing the tree bothers some. It is a system that takes some getting use to but it is comfortable and safe. I think strapping in at dark is a bit of a challenge.

I've used a treesuit in the past, but I think the best of both worlds would be the new Lone Wolf Ambush stand with the saddle style seat.

If you use the treesuit, you really need some foot support, like climbing sticks...or the treesuit climbing platform if you can still find it.

Jim, has Treesuit gone out of business, is that why you're closing them out ?

No I went through a nasty divorce last year and my biz took a huge hit. I wasnt able to re-stock bows because I had to use the $$ to pay lawyers an such.

I personally own the Green's Saddle ( Trophyline),Treesuit and Guido's Web. I hunt with 4 Lone wolf climbing sticks and 2 Steppladder steps at the top at 10 and 2 o'clock and top of Lone Wolf step is at 6 o'clock. With the 2 Steppladder steps I can walk 360degrees around the tree.  Guido's Web stand and system is the safest treestand I have ever used. You can not fall out of it. You can sleep in it. After 28 years of bowhunting I changed from a fixed stand 2 years ago to Treesuit after getting enough nerve to hunt out of one from coaching of Chris Ward ( extremely respected traditional bowhunter from south ga). I have killed 4 deer from Treesuit in first 6 sittings. However last year a bowhunter ( game warden from TN) on this site gave me the name of Guido's Web. Small world because it's made 7 miles from where I grew up in Mississippi. I tried out the Guido stand last December and fell in love with it. It is without a doubt the finest made piece of bowhunting equipment I have ever bought. Quality, Quality, Quality. For you Treesuit users, you need to check this one out. This style of treestands will  be the future...

What is the climbing platform?

Treesuit has made of couple of climbing foot supports that you can climb with. Then it serves as foot platform when you are sitting in the treesuit and you can stand on it. I have both and the newer one is smaller the old one looks like a bottom of a climber. It sort of defeats the idea of the lightness and portability of a treesuit.
Also I sometimes leave a permanent foot support up in a tree. It is usesless to anyone else. I take the circumference of the tree at the spot the foot support will go. I make out of plywood and brackets a semicircle foot support remembering the formula that circumference = Pi times diameter.
