I have seen many recent post about rope set ups. I will take you through one of my set ups. I will explain how I place my stand and why. I have young boys using my stands so safety first. I starts with a plan.
On this set up I cut the wovewire fence so the deer will use this access point.

Next, you will see as the deer go through the cut fence, they walk up the edge of another fence and a gate to an edge. see below

you can see the edge where more open woods meets a more thick part providing cover and security.
In this pic, you can see the where the stand is behind the pine tree to cover you as you draw.

This is what you see as you sit in the tree, the pine gives you cover. You can see where I tied the pine back so it will grow and curve.

Now to the stand itself. I bought 7/16 climbing line off of **** and my prussic's are 5/16 beeline.
(http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/TimAntoine/bowstandpics011.jpg)I put a screw eye in the bottom of the tree to maintain tension. Remember, they are my trees.
(http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/TimAntoine/bowstandpics013.jpg) I run the rope up between the steps so if you were to fall, you could lift yourself up.
The next is the top of the rope set up.

I loop the rope around the tree and down through the screw eye. I am always tied to the tree. Initially, I put these up with a tree saddle.
That's a great set up. Well done, and very well illustrated.

I put up a long bow holder so the bow hangs in front of me when I use my heater body suit.

Lastly, I tie a piece of dental floss, a maribu stork feather with a split shot to keep it from tangling.

This set up if for a NW wind.
Here is the feather, if you look close, you can see the slit shot

To make it even better, I plan to plant large silver grass along the fence in the spring. It is called miscanthus sinensis. It grows to about 6-8 ft tall and provides great cover. You can also plant it in clumps for ground blinds on the edge of fields, woods, etc.
that is awesome..thank you for the info and setup..wish I had woods that look that good..
Melt the ends of your Prussic knots with a lighter please. Nice setup by the way.
Thank you for posting this thread, I will be setting my son up like this next year. Myself too as I have never used a rope. :notworthy:
Where did you get that bow holder?
Gary, I went to lowes and bought some 48 inch square channel. I heated one end and bent it to a 90degree, then I put some plastic hose so it would protect the limb and come off real easy. The other side is a just a tree step heated, and put in the square channel. It extends the bow out in front of me. I hang my bow and use my heater body suit during cold season.
Gary,

Great info. and setup Night Stalker. The pics make it easier to understand.Just be careful with the miscanthus sinensis (Silvergrass) as it is non-native and a very invasive plant.
It can get down into the single digits and with the wind blowing, the wind chill can get 10-15 below. It usually stays around 20 degrees in the Winter with several snows. This year, it has been unseasonal warm but it is snowing out there now. We have several ski areas in the next county over.
I will keep in mind about the silvergrass, it will actually grow here when other ornamental grass dies out in the Winter. I have seen it grow in two spots along side of the road. Sunday, I seen some growing along the blue ridge parkway. I thought about digging it up for a second but the federal goverment would probably frown on that.
Great Thread.
Nice job Timmy.....hope all is well!
Looks like you covered all the bases! Good Job my kinda set up! :archer: Once I climb up I snap a branch. Natural cover sent too. :archer2:
