I am going to switch to wood arrows for my trad shooting. They will be Douglas Fir Surewood shafts with 125 grain points. My question is what spines would you suggest I get in the test pack? The bow is a Hoyt GM2 that is 54 pounds at my 28.5" draw, FF string, off the shelf, catwhisker silencers. It currently tunes well with a 29" 55/75 shaft with the standard insert and 175 grain point. I'm thinking 65/70, 70/75, and 75/80. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Yep. One of those should work for you.
I have a recurve that is 55@29 with 125 gr points. I shoot 30" woodies, they are 70-74 lb spine. I have also shot 65-69 out of it. I think your test pack is right on.
I'd think the 70/75's would work for you with this bow....if the bow is actually built 54#@28.5". If you wanted to go heavier on tip weight the 75/80's would work for tips up to about 150grs. If heading into the 160+gr area then you'd need to jump up into 80/85's.
Thank you for the input. I can't wait to start building these arrows.
