Any proud Dad knows the answer....I took the bored boy, suited him up in full camo, strapped a set of binoculars and a grunt tube to his neck and headed off to the woods.
His smile in the back of the truck was so big I almost couldn't get in.
Obviously hunted from the ground, and took him to a spot I hung a deer skull from last year. I didn't tell him about it. After trudging through all kinds of nasty terrain, we made it to the "plateau". He saw the skull before I did and I acted surprised. I mouthed "BIG MEDICINE" and gave him the signal to be silent.
I had him grunt and move his feet in the leaves to mimic a deer. He was in his glory.
A squirrel was on the hill making a racket, Tyler couldnt see it. He thought we had called in a deer and we had a blast trying to coax in the "antlered" squirrel. He never saw it, and the excitement is still flowing through him as I write this.
As the magic hour came and the woods grew darker and deathly quiet, we slipped out. He did well, trying desperately not to be noisy.
While hunting, I let him whittle a stick to a sharp point and it has not left his hands. Man, I'm glad I took him out.
Take the kids with you when you can, its the most fun I've had all season.
Spending time with your son is always special, just the look on their faces makes it all worthwhile.congrats :clapper: :clapper:

You made the correct choice! Bless you both :clapper:
There is nothing like hunting with your kids. The time with them mean much more than a deer killed. Kids are also so much fun in a deer camp.

My boy use to go with me all the time but he's got the fishin bug so bad thats all he thinks about. I sure miss him! He just turned 13 today...maybe he'll come back around. Love spending time with him no matter what it is.
Cool pics! Jason
Sounds like a great day.
Man I can't wait till my kid is big enough to go to the woods. I have been taking my brother in law since he and I both can remember. I was sitting with him his morning when he shot a doe. I took my 8 year old nephew turkey hunting this spring and he got two gobblers. He was so pumped we got to watch them fly down off the roost and come strutting in. I think I like to watch the kids take game more than me. You did a hell of a job.
Good choice, David. You're making hunters right there. I love hunting with my son. He's 28 now, not as committed as the old man, but still keen enough.
Cant beat this.... Great story and pics
You rule David!! :clapper: :clapper:
