About a year ago I bought my first traditional bow, (Ive made 2 or 3 self bows before that) a Martin ML-14 @ 80#. It was the most beautiful bow Id ever seen , shedua on shedua, and I paid out the wazoo for it. I wanted the 70# but all I could get was 80. It took every ounce of me to string it and the first draw was murder. Every thing about this bow has been a challenge. I weighed it and it came out to 88# at 28 and a wopping 110 at my draw of 30. Typical Martin I thought. I went through 3 dozen arrows and every possible configuration and could not get descent arrow flight. So I put it away and didnt look at it for a few months. Then one day I picked up a scrap piece of wood in the garage and said hey this would work good to measure bow weights on my bathroom scale. So I re-weighed all my bows. Apparently the broom handle Id been using had exaggerated the weights by quite a bit. My Martin was, in fact, 85# at 30. Not 110. I had shot 85# spines through it but I guess I had psyched myself out from the beginning. I played with some point weights and went out back and for the first time since I bought the thing.. I was shooting baby! Arrows through the same hole. Ive had this bow for a year but I just got my "one bow."
