Has anyone ever had any luck hunting out of a treestand on windy days? And if so what was your secret?
just stay put!
Hang on :bigsmyl:
I'm a solid treestand guy...97% of hunting time in one of dozens of trees set up.
I'm not a big fan however of sitting up there with winds howling. I've done it, but cant say I enjoy it. I'd rather still hunt other areas to learn terrain and look for active sign OUTSIDE my hotspot during high wind days.
Its surely productive to stay put up there, Id just rather not.
Stay after em.You wont kill anything if you are not there.
i've had good luck hunting on windy days out of treestands. Most of these stands were on pinch points or funnels along stands of pine trees or anywhere that the wind isn't making a lot of noise blowing leaves and stuff.
I killed a couple of does on really windy days in a bottom.
I had given up on this area a couple of years ago. I would see plenty of deer but on light wind days the wind was un predictable and I would always get busted. This year on a very windy day I decided that with a strong wind it was at least predictable, and maybe would blow my scent out of the bottom. Seemed to work on two different evenings.
Deer are spooky when the wind is high, I like to hunt the heavy cover on windy days and have taken a few deer.
