Well after looking at thread upon thread of new custom bow pics. I thought what about us guys who have older, daily hunting, plain jane, beat up bows that are tried and true in the field. So lets have some pics of those that still stand the test of time. And its not about ugly bows just old bows still hunting.
This is a pic of a Hill Tembo that I got from a great man, my daily hunter. It has ding's and rubs and is as faithfull as can be.At my draw its 70#@30" and full of strength and desire. Thanks Tim

Green stripe Bear Take down with # 2 limbs that are 50lbs at my 30" draw..ol'reliable if ever there was such a thing :>) It doesn't matter what custom bow I start the season with..that bow ends up out in the woods with me at some point every hunting season...
Monster bow Tim! You can turn that baby into a work of art pdq w/spar urethane & 000 steel wool.
A doe (so far) this year with my 1966 Browning Explorer. A bit of tape camo but she's not too bad underneath.

This is My "OLD" D-bow! I made this selfbow in the early 80's. Its around 25 years old or more. I killed my first "FLINT" primitive arrow deer with it. I was just a small button buck..but it was one of my top trophy's I ever killed! Too go out and cut a stave and stick and make it all..and then kill a deer... is something you can only feel with doing it! I love this little bow!
56 inch OSAGE Selfbow ...70# @ 26 inch draw
Buddy the refinishing idea never crossed my mind till you mentioned it,maybe I will in the off season.
How about my '64 Bear Kodiak

1982 Bear TD signed by Glenn St Charles.
If you want to look at some beautiful vintage bows, go to the "Trad History/Collection Forum and look at the "are you hunting vintage this year thread" one of the best threads on TG.

Sorry guys,im new at pics on here but i think i finally got it.
I know we have some more old hunting bows that are still hunting
I bought this Grayling Bear Super Grizzly new in 1981 at a salvage place in Kernersville, NC. My guess is they bought out an archery shop that went out of business or from an insurance company after a claim from a wrecked delivery truck. I promptly took it home and drilled holes in the riser for the quiver mount. Then I bought flat paint and camo'd it up. It really doesn't matter 'cause it'll be with me 'til the end. I'm 46 now and took my first trad deer with it opening day this year.

The bow I'm using is as old as I am it's a 1968 Shakespeare Super Necedah, 54" long and 45#'s @ 28". It was my late father's bow. Next year will be the first year I get to hunt big game with it and it will get a lot of practice between now and then. The bow truly is in near mint condition, currently its sporting wife made camo limb covers, and it has a matching set in white for winter shooting and a kind of golden color for hunting in fall's dead tall weed fields. I just change the limb covers to match the terrain I'm in.

That's a blast from the past for sure. I have a sales paper with a bow on it just like yours. It is from the year the grizzly first hit the market.
Here's my Martin Bushmaster (mid 90's) Still a great shooter but still young...

DON'T LIGHT THAT FIRE !!!!! :campfire: :nono:
Thanks guys, I shot that Deer a couple of years ago, I guess a guy get's sentimental in his old age, that bow is the same age as me, I thought it would be kinda nice to hunt with a bow that was build in the same year I was born.
Take care all.
Regards.
Bert. :archer2:
My Hill Halfbreed is getting older and is certainly a user. It's collecting a few scuffs and the leather is really starting to show its age.

Should fit in well on this thread - good idea!
This picture is from 2 years ago with with my 1968 Howatt Monterey. I'm still taking it to the woods.

I don't have a photo but I'm taking my 67 Bear Kodiak and some cedars for a scouting trip this afternoon.....even though it's gun season!!
Bert I know that 1952 was the year they quit making those bows with the alluminum lamination. Does your bow have alluminum in it or not?
Nice Photo Hatrick!
Great Thread!!!!!!
My grandpa gave me this unmarked recurve this thanksgiving. He does not remember what company made it.But it has a stamp for 50# at 28" on it. That is all. He asked me to carry on our family tradition with it. To say the least it was a very emotional moment. As far as the age of this bow.. He guessed it was anywhere between 30 to 40 years old.
That's a pricelss pic of you and your grandpa. It's on you to carry on the tradition, I'm sure you will. Thanks for sharing!
love this thread.... keep it going!!!
From back in the day.....1980's Bear Green Striper with old school green tip limbs.

John, did you skinned those limbs' They look great!
Great picture and story, Caleb. Looks like it's time for you to carry on the "family tradition."
Only piece of advice I would give is to get yourself a hood for those broadheads. They look like the old MA3's or Bodkins. That's an old model Kwikee Kwiver and still very useful. You can order a hood for that by going to the Kwikee Kwiver web site. The hood is $5.00 and probably at least that much for shipping.

So probably not as old as some but here are my workhorses:
My John Schulz Trophy Hunter, has been my "Go to" bow this season. Love this longbow!
And my previous hunting bow, Original Damon Howatt Mamba. Still take this one out from time to time but it does stack quite a bit at my longer draw.
Thanks for the advice Hatrick I will have to look into getting that! One quick question.. Those are his old wooden arrows. They look in good shape.. Should I not shoot them?
You guys are posting on the wrong thread, he asked for "Plain Janes"..., them bows are Beuuuuutifull !
If the wood looks good in the shafts, put new nocks on them and let them fly..
Plastic nocks will get brittle with age, and are dangerous..
What kind of broadheads are on them? Oh and you probably need a different quiver. :)
70's grizzly.

Thats a beautiful grizzly stone knife. I debated purchasing one off **** not too long ago!
The shafts look good I will try and shoot a few tonight. I will get back to you on the heads and yes. The new quiver is a work in progress haha
How bout this,1953 Ben Pearson Javelina 53@28.It was kinda rough when i got it,but with a lot of work and tender loveing care she looks great and shoots even better

Bringing this back around. For me it's going to be this 1969 Tigercat this year. Just a great fitting and shooting bow!
Wow, this thread brings back memories of bows I wish I had kept, or taken better care of years ago. Funny thing is, I thought it was going to be about old bowhunters, not old hunting bows when I clicked on it.
Looking at the longevity of some of these bows, I really don't need a new one.
Bert Should have shown his real work horse.
Lets see the Pigster Bert, I'm calling you out.
