Who hunts with their bow during gunseason? Are you successful??
I am this year, and so far no. I am hunting a spot where no one else hunts so there is no pressure.
I hunt privte and public lands with my bow during gun season here in Montana, this is my 12 year doing this I have been real successful. I have killed some real nice bucks durning the gun season.
Is there a gun season? I just thought that was the part of bow season when I have to wear an orange hat.
Killed this buck a couple years back here in Indiana on the 2nd day of the concurrent firearm/orange hat bow season...by the way I DID have the orange Kromer on for the hunt, but changed out to the gray Kromer for the pics...I HATE that orange!
I try to pretend all those bangy-sounds are firecrackers or something...

I have for the last 20 or so years and have been pretty successful. Find yourself a good pinch point or escape route.
"i dont need a gun, i got me a donk." thats the low sound my bow makes when i release an arrow. lol rv
If I haven't filled my tag before rifle season I always hunt with a bow during it.
Jeez Ryan, that's a nice deer no matter what the season, or hunting implement!
gun season started today in N.C.,now wearing a ORANGE hat and using a light when going to my stand for saftey :archer:
I don't even get serious till gun season here in my part of NC which is mid-October, and I kill a lot of deer and usually a buck or two each season. Like someone else said I'm extra careful when hunting during the gun season. Here's a buck I killed earlier this month in a block of woods that is heavily gun hunted. He's nowhere near the caliber of buck Ryan killed but a good one for the area's I hunt where very few 2.5 year old bucks make it through the season without getting shot by the gun hunters.

I am but no buck tag and of course thats all im seeing!! If all I had was a buck tag, doe's would be all I'd be seeing. lol
I have been out twice with my selfbow, rivercane, and stone points. So far it has just been relaxation. No deer sighted yet.
i hunt every season i can with my bow. i have been very succesful hunting during gun seasons. I feel more satisfaction killing a nice buck during the gun seasons especially talking with unsuccesful gun hunters!
I'm still toting my longbow while all other members are toting rifles and killing deer. I have only managed one missed shot early this season. Seeing deer, just not getting good opportunities for a shot. Really tough right now with most all the leaves off the trees and little cover but I'm still trying.
Hunted this past Fri, Sat, & Sun on a gun hunt quota permit for a highly desired WMA. Showed up at the gate with my longbow. Check in guy said "You know this is a gun hunt, right." My reply was, "where I hunt you can't see 35 yards, even if you can it's not good enough to shoot over maybe 30. I don't need no stinking gun."
Ended up killing 1 hog on Friday and a Doe Saturday about 4pm. Both shots were under 12 yards. If you hunt the thick cover where their at, you don't need a gun.
One of the clubs I am in has 20 members and I am the only bowhunter in the group. I bowhunt exclusively August 15 until January 1.
I live 3 miles from a large conservation area that allows bow hunting, during gun season you can still hunt it on your gun tag. Good hunting gun pressure pushes deer to the refuge. Making the last day tomorrow if we are not getting another monsoon.
Have traditionally hunted during the gun season unless tagged out. I generally start trending down my aggrssive hunting during gun season, since it always seems that after ~30+ hunts, I am ready for a break and then there have been seasons where I hunted hard up thru the middle of January.
Have a close bud that not only works hard, but has hunted every day of the season with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
**Too tough for me!**
I'm with katman. I feel either your a bowhunter or your a gunhunter with a bow. IMHO
I do and have been this year. Also carry my longbow during muzzleloader season.
Back when I used compounds i killed a couple of deer during the bow season and later that year in gun season a buck came along and I picked up my gun and shot it and it went a few yards and feel over. I just set there looking at it and although I was proud that I got a chance to harverst a deer it just didn't feel the same. I didn't have anywhere near the same satisfaction from the gun kill. That was the last time I carried my gun in the woods. Was compound for the next year or two and sold that when I seen the light and switched to traditional.
This is the first year you can hunt with a bow during our firearm season. Unfortunately for me the place I bow hunt get rifled hunted by the land owner and some family members - so I am out for 9 days!
Bow all year. It's a privilege...& fun. Been awhile since I've killed anything.

My thoughts exactly!!
I start with my recurve and end with my recurve. Wouldn't have it any other way!

I do pick up a gun :scared: very little. Mainly just to spend time with my dad and grandpa as they don't bowhunt, but my main weapon of choice is my longbow.
The longbow has become my only hunting weapon. I hunt gun season with it and have taken deer.
I would rather have a miss with my longbow than a kill with a gun because it is so much more exciting.
Having said that I DO love venison and if I do not have at least one for my freezer towards the end of the season then "BANG.
Bow all year for me. Nothing against guns, just enjoy hunting with a bow more.
Haven't shot a big game animal with a firearm in I don't know how long. And very seldom is my freezer without venison. Whenever I'm out hunting, no matter the species, there is a longbow in my hand.
In NC I still use the bow 95% of the time. I may carry my pistol but that is due to the thickness of the woods. A bow, even a rifle is too long.
I am actually gonna try my new Striker in PA next week (please let it arrive in time). I should get some funny looks there.
I find gun season can be some of the most productive days - I hunt public land sometimes and it really gets the deer moving - I just get in early and find some thick stuff behind most of the other guys.
Yep,
Gonna try hard this year...when I can.

Bow only for me!( Recurve or longbow.) The rifles were cleaned and carefully put into the locker,a few years ago. Maxx
I sold all my guns to buy bows many years ago.
Bow only for me; recurve or longbow.
My personal motto is, "The bow way, or no way"
