Title: bob lee setup help
Post by: babs on November 21, 2011, 12:22:00 AM
I just got two new bob lee bows both 3pc bows, one a recurve another a longbow. Both bows are 62" and 50 lbs at 29". I have some goldtip 35-55 arrows and I have some beman mfx arrows in 400 spine. Where would you guys begin with setup, I have 100 grain field tips all the way up until 250 grain tips. I shoot three under and I draw to 29". The mfx arrows all have the 75 grain brass inserts installed also. Where to start I didnt want to set them up in the middle of my bow season but now its over and I'm eager to get these bows tuned. Just thought I would ask you guys first might save me some time thanks brad

I shoot 50# at my DL(29.5") and use .400 spine (GT 55/75) arrows. 30.5" long with 100gr brass inserts and 150gr points/BH's. I use 3-4" parabolic right wing feathers.

These arrows tune well off both my Sarrels Blueridge takedown longbow and my Sarrels Bobcatt TD takedown recurve (both bows are 50#@29.5").

I shoot .400 spine arrows with 250 grain points out of my BL take down. Its 55# @ 28. i also have some CX 150 with 250 grains up front that shoot great out the same bow.

I was thinking the arrows are a bit light. Bob Lee bows in my experience like a high nocking point and a heavy arrow. Otherwise they are a bit noisy. If you're going to hunt with these bows I would suggest at least 10gpi and 160g+ up front.

Brad,

I shoot a Bob Lee Classic, 60"/55#@28".  I previously used Beman MFX 400's - 28 7/8" with 100 grain brass inserts, 155 grain old Bear razorheads with broadhead adapters, 5" shield feathers with 7" wraps (580 grains). They shot perfect.

Now I shoot Easton FMJ 500's - 28 1/8", 100 grain brass inserts, the same old Bear razorheads w/adapters (155grains), and 5" parabolic feathers with 7" wraps (465 grains).  They also shoot great!

I used Stu Miller's Dynamic Spine Calculator and the numbers worked perfectly.

I shoot split finger and 8 strand D97. With that, my brace height is 7 7/8", a nocking point of 9/16, and 4 homemade wool siencers (2 on top/2 on bottom) placed 12" and 17" from the tips.

Love them Lee's,   good luck!

I just setup a 62 inch 58# @ 28 inch Bicentennial

I draw around 27 so it's pro bale pulling around 55 #

It bare shafted perfect with an ICS Hunter 400 with a 100 grain  brass insert cut at 29 inches
