Hi-
I just picked up a new hoyt buffalo. Well, new to me. Anyhow, I was trying to decide if I should put limb tip protectors on it? My last bow (Bob Lee) I just did the bottom limb. What's everyone else doing?
Also- Are fletching covers needed and/or useful? I'm usually hunting white-tails or turkey from the ground or a treestand. My feathers are two red and a white.
One more--been sitting on the ground lately with a 'tri-pod' chair with a small back on it. I think its made by ameristep. I can't say its the most comfortable chair, but it works. What do you all recommend for a comfortable chair? I don't want something that needs to be attached to a tree since sometimes I just plop down in the middle of a clumb of grass/weeds.
Personally, I don't care for the rubber tip protectors. If you aren't careful moisture can collect in there and do more damage than an unprotected tip, so I let my tips go naked. If you really want a tip protector I would suggest a leather one that at least has a chance to dry out if it gets wet. Even then, I worry about moisture too long on the finish.
Fletching covers aren't needed for deer, but can be a very handy way to keep your feathers dry. On turkeys the bright fletch can really catch their eye, so they sure help on the birds.
A good quality chair is a great investment. My favorite is the Waldrop pack seat. I also use a Nifty Seat which is a one legged stool, and it is a great tool, but does need a tree to lean on. The Huntmore chairs are probably the most comfortable ones out there. Not quite as portable as the Waldrop, but great chairs. Invest in a good quality seat and you will never regret it.
The bottom limb protectors can be made to be waterproof by simply punching a 1/8 hole in the bottom. The rubber protectors that Black Widow sells have the hole already and also have a hole on the top to tie a wind detection feather to,pretty neat!!
