Was watching VS channel this morning and there was a young man on there Montana deer hunting with traditional gear. What a great job he did in illustrating what traditional archery means to so many of us. The Buck Stops Here was the show. Has anyone else seen this, and do you know if he is on here. Missed his name, but I sure would like to thank him for pushing trad on tv. Thought the show also gave him a great opportunity to headline his passion. Awesome!

was the guy using a longbow? i think ive seen that one, would like to see more like it
-
Yes, he was shooting a Robertson Mystic, with cedars and what looked like Zwicky 2 blades. Made a great shot on a doe, then later in the show scored on a 5x5. The guy said he grew up in a trad family, father and brothers shoot trad. He just did an excellent job conveying the traditional experience.
-
He was a nice looking young fellow with a seemingly very good personalty. I would like to see more of this on the shows. He said his daughters sure like the venison.
-
I am going to see if I can find that show. It sounds like a good one.
-
His name is Luke Strommen, and he is a tradgang member and posts here quite often. And yes, he did an outstanding job on that show, especially given the limitations of television.
-
Agree, I saw that last week or the week before and thought it was well done. He is a welcome addition when he is on that show.
I actually think Mike Hanback does a good job with that show as well. He shot (rifle) a giant buck on the last show I saw but displayed some genuine (IMO) emotion at the idea that it was his buck of a lifetime.
-
And the name of the show is???
-
I think they had another episode awhile back with Luke hunting with his longbow. Excellent episodes and hope to see more of him on there.
-
Sure would like to catch that one.

The Buck Stops Here is the show and it was a good episode.
What's Luke's handle on TradGang?
Mike
-
It will air again at 8:30 pm eastern tonight.
-
He goes by Milk River Stickman
-
Ive seen hime before...last season he took a nice buck with a robertson recurve..I think he goes by milk river stickbowman..one of his guides or maybe it was his brother...cant recall was using a bear kodiak hunter...would love to see more shows like that one...
-
Luke was just a youngun when we hunted his family farm years ago. He's grown into a fine young fella and has been around whitetails all his life. Glad to see he's sticking with the stick.
-
Thought it was a very well done episode all the way around. If I'm lucky, very lucky, I'll get to share a camp with someone like him some day.

Just flipped on VS, the episode tonight is firearm hunts in IL and Saskatchewan.

I seen that episode...like a breath of fresh air. He portrayed the traditional community very well.
Job well done!

Thank you all so much for the positive words. You all have no idea how much that truly means to me. I have been worried as heck about how that show would come out since I have absolutely no control over editing and the producers really don't care about conveying our side and passion. I was wrung out over that horrible shot on the buck and begged them to make it real and not cover it up or edit it as though it was a good shot. I didn't want any excuses. I am sorry for that shot, mostly because I didn't want it reflecting on the trad community. It is so tough to get true trad hunts on prime time, but they are finally starting to realize we are out here and there is a great message to show...the last longbow kill I did with Mike on VS was out of a treestand and it was there most view, highest rating show of all time AND of all field sports shows on all of tv (that's what I was told)...that says a lot for all of you, very cool. There will be reruns of the show throughout the winter. I was shooting a Robertson Mystical (replaced by the Primal Styk), cedar arrows, and the great STOS head from my friend Todd Martin in 145 grains. I would be happy to answer any questions and take critisicm. Thanks again to all of you, I love this site.

Just flipped on VS, the episode tonight is firearm hunts in IL and Saskatchewan.
That's what was showing here too.
:(
I tried Google to find a place to watch it online with no luck. Is there a place to watch it online?
-
Best trad hunt of all time... Loved the whole thing from start to finish. Great job
-
one used to be able to go to the Versus website and click on the show to watch in on the internet, but with NBC buying them out I don't know if a guy can do that this time. If they stick to their pattern, VS should rerun the show several more times this winter. I'll see what I can find out.

I saw the show a couple weeks ago. Great job Luke. You did a fantastic job expressing your passion for this sport we all love so much!
-
Luke, I've seen that program twice and would love to see it again. It showed real world experiences and that's what we all face evertime we step in the field. I think you did a GREAT job representing the trad communitity, we are all lucky to have a voice in you.
-
Thats a nice lookin buck, nice job.
-
Hope someone will post when this will run again so I also can catch it. Even though I have not seen it I too would like to say thanks to Luke for doing a show with the traditional bow.
-
Haven't seen the show but just read your post. :clapper:
You seem to have a lot of class, that's very refreshing.
Good luck to you! Tim
-
Great pics Luke. Can't wait for more.
-
Luke, thanks for the great couple of episodes you have done. You portray what we all strive for, a passionate hunter that respects the hunt as well as the game you pursue. Hope to cross paths one day in a hunting camp. Have a great one
-
Thanks for all the positive words, I respect the member of this site and their opinions and truly take them to heart. You guys are awesome.
-
I guess if you like pictures...this was my first longbow buck on Versus a few years ago...same longbow (her name is Sweet Tee)....

Great pictures Luke !!! Sure hope they run your show again. Would really like to catch it.

I'd really like to see the show. It would be a refreshing change to what's normally shown. Sounds like a program that members on here would "like" to see while others in the hunting community "need" to see.
Great pictures. Keep up the good work, Luke.
-
That was a refreshing show
-
I remember seeing the show with the first buck. ( the pic you posted). That was an amazing show and it seemed you truly made an impression on the host. Keep up the good work but most of all. THANK YOU!!!!
-
Just plain excellent all around. Well done and keep up the good work!
-
Good job Luke! Can't wait to see the show.
-
Looking forward to seeing it Luke, please keep us posted for reruns and any new shows .
-
I am suprised no one has ribbed me for my horribly obvious short draw on that doe! It was the first cold snap of the season and sitting in the tree stand for 5 hours before the shot, then around the back of the tree...that's all the excuses I can come up with! I have always had that revisiting problem no matter how hard I work at it. And Thanks again Fellas!
-
Congrats Luke...just watched the show the other day. It was awesome.
I'm sure all the people at home were wondering how the deer didn't see you because you weren't wearing the latest greatest camo pattern out there.
-
Blazelefty7- you are exactly right about the "camo"...people ask me all the time how the deer don't see me because I am not wearing camo. I grew up with my Dad and Uncles wearing plaid, then some camo got thrown into the mix and match. Those were the good 'ol days. Of course, I have worn camo in the past, and it works pretty darn good as we all know, but I think a good plaid is as concealing. Thanks for the comments.
-
Luke great pictures. I see you are still at the trad bowhunting and collecting wool shirts. Lol. Great job. I remember my hunt like it was yesterday. Keep up the good work. J.R. Chambers
-
Thanks JR! You pulled off a great shot on a great buck on that hunt, what a blast that was. Hope we get to do it again sometime.
-
What do you think, Luke? It appears you have a great relationship with Mike Hannback and he certainly respects your choice of equipment. We would love to see more traditonal hunts on the show.At some point, the powers that be, will realize trad. hunters are here to stay and increasing in number.
-
I am definitely looking out for this episode...thanks for being a great voice for the community. Great deer by the way.
-
I have tried to find a schedule on Verus, but either my technical ineptitude or the lack of it's presence is blocking my attempts. Anybody have a clue of a possible time/dates for repeats?
Tim
-
Vesty- Mike really likes the trad aspect, and not just someone shooting a longbow to mix up some ratings or views, but who lives it...I don't think the possibility of a strictly trad show is out there, but seeing more and more trad hunts is definately in the works. We may even have Mike shooting a recurve (maybe even an old Bear) later on too...that was planned this year but it didn't work out. That would be cool, I think. Thanks!
And thanks Normandale33!
Far Rider- with versus selling out, it seems like they just quit everything...u used to be able to get a schedule off their website, but I don't know now. I try to keep everyone informed when it will be coming back on...by then everyone ought to be sick of hearing about it!
-
The show is on Thursday Thanksgiving at noon (time zone?) and Friday at 8:30AM according to the site, but who knows if it is that episode.
-
Ya know Luke, I picked that up about Mike watching his reaction to your success. He's genuinely happy for you and you can't fake something like that. I've always liked his show and now with you and the trad. hunts it's just icing on the cake for me. Keep it up!
-
I loved it,Thanks for sharing with all of us. :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
-
Good deal Luke. Keep up the good work ... I would love to know when this will be rebroadcast since I missed it the first time:^(

I have that stinkin' "Dish Network" and they don't include VS anymore! 144 channels my butt! 1/2 of them are infomercials and PPV!
-
Gary-
I'll let you guys know if they air it again. Thanks to all of you again for your gracious support.
-
Hey fellas-I am sorry, but I dropped the ball on the last airing of the show...I was checking my DVR today and realized it aired on the 23rd again...I didn't know it was going to be on then and it looks like they only aired it once that week...not sure if they'll air it again. Sorry fellas. No one's really missing much...just a Dork having fun with a longbow! Thanks for all the support. I am being interviewed for Bowhunting World this spring This spring for a "going trad" piece. I always give Trad Gang.com a shout during these interviews and pieces, but they don't always make it...I'll do it again for this issue, it should go in this piece. I may ask for some input from you guys about it...thanks again!
-
Sad to say I missed that show! But you can bet I will search and record it cause by all accounts it sounds like a outstanding show!
I'm here to tell ya we need to contact VS by email, phone, letter whatever and tell them we need to see MORE of this kinda shows! Hunting in general is not well represented now adays on TV and we need to get our voice out that this is what we enjoy and want to watch.
On a side note there is a show "Meat Eater" (sundays at 9) on the Outdoor channel by Steve Renelle that although is not trad bowhunting is still a very very good show that needs our endorsement. And no I have no connections with either just a feed up person who can rarely watch a hunting show on TV now adays!
If enough of us take the time to contact the producers that this is what we want to see maybe just maybe the other junk shows will take notice!
-
I'm with you, LC, on most of the stuff aired out there. I quit watching it a few years back, and have had to make myself watch it recently to catch up with things for certain reasons. It is truly sad, isn't it. It's up to us to let the youth know that there is something else out there and an ethic that still exists.
That being said, I am sure there are some good shows out there, I just don't watch much tv.
