how many days do you let a place cool down when hunting it hard?
I hunt public land where there are many people who use the WMA for hunting, hiking, and illegaly riding ATV's. The deer in this area are accustomed to people walking and riding :banghead: on the trails and they do not get overly spooked. It's when you get off those trails when they get spooked a lot more.
I usually don't hunt the same place 2 times in a row but I rotate where I sit depending on wind, deer sightings, and gut feelings.
I wish I had that issue....I get out when I can. Usually it is not even 2 days in a row.....
I'd say three days, BUT . . . I have taken deer an hour after a diesel backhoe dragged a log skid (with two guys yelling at each other using "F__kin!" as their only adjective) past my stand within 60 yards of where I took the shot.
When you say "hunt hard" do you mean with drives? Treestands? Missed a shot and spooked the buck(s) or just stunk up the place with your scent.
If a deer has "made" you in one location give it three days or more to settle out.
I like to give it 3 or 4 days between hunts when I have a specific buck i am chasing. Irregular intervals... Just me, but if I can find their pattern, why couldn't they find mine?
God Bless,
Nathan
I hunt a stand evening then morning wind permitting and don`t hunt it again for 4-5 days.RC
Unless I`m sitting on a hot feed tree then I hunt it purty hard as they will fall out and be dead in a week or so anyway.RC
