Does anyone know what type of power is in those little squeeze bottles they use to see what direction the wind is coming from?
Refill them with corn starch.
I use blue carpenters chalk, got a few bottles of it so might as well use it up.
Unscented talc?
I use finely milled sand in mine.
I use baking soda that I also wash clothes in.

Corn starch!
i use baby powder
Use cornstarch. It is in your wife's kitchen right now and costs almost nothing.
Catch up with someone that wears contacts. Have them save the small lense re-wetting drops bottles for you when they become empty. Snap the cap off, rinse out with tap water, allow it to dry and fill with cornstarch.
Cheap and easy and you can make a few in case you misplace one.

cornstarch works great ....... been using it for years
I have always used cornstarch but have heard unscented talc works better but I can never find it.
I think it is probably talc. I'm using baking soda now but I think the talc would work better. The baking soda seems to be heavier (doesn't float as far) and if you get the bottle wet you spend 15 minutes unclogging the tip.
I use wood ash from our fireplace
just get some fuzz from a cottonwood tree. You can see if for a long way, sometimes 50 or 60 yards. It will tell you way more about what the wind is doing than the powder.
God Bless,
Nathan
I just tie a little unwaxed dental floss from my limb tip...no movement except my eyes :-)
Go to a store like REI and buy a big bag of the climber's chalk. Works great!
If you live in an are where they already grow or you carefully remove all the seeds milkweed fluff works great like the cottonwood mentioned earlier you can follow the wing currents for some distance. Can be very revealing of thermals and such. Dont cary them around and introduce weeds to non native areas but they grow most places and you can remove the seeds first like I said. I actualy place a few on my sleave, under arm guard or under a pocket flap at the start of the hunt and they will stay there until you pull them off and let float.

Ever try the tops of Cattails. They last a long time and they are free, just have to dry them out. I have a couple that are dried and ready. I'll offer them up for free for two people wanting to try them.
Corn starch. It can also help walking back to camp if you are a little chafed...PR
