Just finished up this bone pointed primitive arrow. I never took a deer with "bone" yet ...but its time now. I have a Ohio doe tag to fill.
I made the arrow out of Red Osier (dogwood) 35 inches long for added #. The bone point is 1 inch by 2 1/4 long. The point /shaft tapper is done right.
I will shoot it out of My 55# Osage selfbow. I'll limit the shot too 15 yards or less. The point is very sharp in my opinion.
Doe pics too ..follow..I hope ! Thanks for looking.
Point was made fron fresh cow leg bone dried for a few months.
The arrow flies .."PERFECT" !

Arrow # is right on 650 gr.
thats awsome! can't wait to see a redshaft..
Looks nice!
Question is that wide enough to meet regs in your part of the country?
Very nice profile. That should get it done.
Ohio 3/4 inch !
I drove a bone tipped viburnum shaft right under the belly of a buck, and 1" into a fallen hickory trunk. It took about ten minutes to carve it out of there, but it was intact and ready to shoot again. I never did connect with it though. Might be time to try again...
Go gitem and keep us informed
Fine looking bone point for sure. Wish you all the luck filling that doe tag.

That looks very deadly! Great pictures of your arrow! Good luck as you try it out!

:campfire:
Really cool! How much does it weigh and how did you make it? I take it a cow bone is harder and stronger than one from a deer?
Wow, very nice. Looking forward to the end result.
looks good! is the edge sharp or just the tip of the point?
Very nice, good luck
Had another doe by me this evening...ten feet away... pinned me when I drew!!! Ahhhh . I love hunting off ground!!! Well back to the quiver for "Boney" ! Another day...another try !
Osy ..yes its sharp full lenth. Its filled and then even diamond like a steel blade! amazing sharp.
WOW, that is cool, and you make a really awesome, cant wait to see the doe it takes!

If you just have to "experiment" with this stuff, perhaps some serrations would be a good idea.
Gotta think steel replaced bone and stone for a reason. As far as I'm concerned if it won't get hair cutting razor sharp then it doesn't belong in the woods.
Charlie ..I did my homework! ..like I said I'm very limiting on how and when ...it flies at a doe. But thanks for your thoughts...Bone!!! isn't for everyone as is everything in life.
Just had to add my thoughts. Your attitude toward my comments is appreciated.
Your welcome Sir !....48 plus years at this "stick" thing has pushed me to take it too a different direction. But I do it with wisdom...in most cases. If I honestly though it was a bad thing ...it would never FLY! Good Hunting Charle !!!

...and cars replace horses and dirt roads got paved yet they will all still get you where you're going!! ;)
Remember... The old ways will work in the future, but the new ways have never worked in the past!
Molson ..well said !!!!
I too like serrations especially for turkey bh's. E-mailed pix. Best luck.
Dang had another doe close by this evening...15 yards. Picked me out before I seen her...But how FUN..it was ! Tomorrow !!!!!
Great looking arrow, good luck!
I believe that bone point is sharp. I was working on some elk antlers a couple years back, and sliced my hand wide open on a sharp edge I had just cut.
That is awesome!!
Hope you get it done soon.
2 cool good luck!
thats very cool
Realy cool, good luck.
Goodluck Stoney, hope you get one.
Thanks Guys !
I think it's awesome, Stoney! One of my personal goals is to take a deer with a self bow and stone point arrow.
(With an abundance of due respect... there are also those archers who believe that a bow that shoots below 300 fps doesn't belong in the woods as well as rifle shooters who believe that a projectile flying less than 2000 fps doesn't belong in the woods.)
I'm waiting patiently to see how he made them. Where's THEM pics Stoney????
Guys check out my 15 min. Bone Point Topic !
Any luck with the bone point yet this season?
Dan
Good luck on the hunt! Very nice looking head and arrow. Is the head triangular or does it have a shank on it?
Unfortunately, I don't know of a single Canadian province that allows anything other than steel heads. 10,000 years of success wasn't enough to convince them that stone and bone worked.....
It looks very sharp. Thanks for sharing.
So, how did the hunt with this arrow go?

I saw one thread where you went thru a "how to" and the end result looked scary sharp.
You should find your story and actually post a link to it... finding archived can be a bit daunting on occassion.
This should be interesting...
That looks wicked! Good luck on your hunt
