My wife and a I are considering going to Australia in a couple of years. We'd like to stay for a month or so, maybe for the month of July. I want to bowhunt and really want to try for a water buffalo or a big feral bull and some hogs. Can anyone enlighten me on the process I'll need to go through?
looper,
Get in contact with Andy Ivy. He's a member by the name of Tradtusker.

To get onto feral cattle or Buffalo you will 99.9999% of the time have to use an outfitter . The places these animals usually inhabit are very remote ...
pigs are well spread across the country and are huntable in many many parts of Australia . Note that due to disease most people do not eat feral hogs here in Oz . I eat them if taken in green country or near the coast ... the western plains pigs I leave for goanna's ... or other pigs .
Also remember we have numerous rabbits [ everywhere ]foxes, goats and seven species of deer plus camels ...
Its a big place , nearly the same size as the USA with less than 20 million people , most of whom live in close proximity to the eastern coast . Its a big beautiful place with a bunch of critters to hunt .
Andy Ivy would be a good contact or any of us Aussie tradgangers can pouint you in the right direction .
Ben about summed it up. Down south in Victoria we have some great Sambar hunting on public land. All it costs is about $45.00 for a Deer license. The season runs all year.
Let me know if you make it down my way. I should be able to at least get you a look at a Sambar. Cant guarantee a shot opportunity, that's up to the animals and mother nature.
We're in the beginning stages of planning right now. My wife has a good friend that lives in Melbourne, so that will probably be our first stop. I want to see as much as we can.
Hey, enjoy our country! If you do get wandering through Katherine, look us up.
