Title: Where to you call home?
Post by: Furseeker on November 12, 2011, 11:52:00 AM
First let me say again how fortunate I feel about finding this site, seems like a great source to learn more about this great sport. And if this topic has already been cussed and discussed then I apologize. But I would find it interesting to find out where you guys call home. Or where you were originally from and where you call home now. I'm from Utah, born and raised here. And while we don't have the opportunity to take as many deer as some of you guys have I couldn't imagine life out of the Rocky Mountains.

Raised in So. Cal. but moved to Wyoming soon as I could. Casper is home and like Del Gue said in the movie "the Rocky mountains is the morrow of the earth" Yeah the wind blows and it gets cold but you can feel THE EARTH IS ALIVE! here and it's home.

Lot's of folks just put in a state but some states are rather large. A town would be nice in their profile.

I live in Forks Wa. In the olympic rain forest not far from where the strait of juan de fuca meets the pacific ocean.
It rains about 140 inches a year. We have roosevelt elk, blacktail deer, bear and cougar for big game. For fishing it is salmon, steelhead and trout in the many rivers and the ocean.
I doubt I will ever live anywhere else.

Raised as an Army brat, so I lived several places growing up. Did a little stint in the Green Machine myself, ending up at Ft. Wolters, Texas (Mineral Wells). Got a job with Ft. Worth PD after the Army, but wised up and moved to Wyoming in 1977. With the exception of a couple of months in the winter in Arizona, I'm not leaving Wyoming, and I am fortunate enough to live in Buffalo, on the east face of the Bighorn Mts. Unlike PrarrieDog, I moved from Casper because the wind there is brutal. No place better than Buffalo for me.

I was born and raised in upstate, SC. Lived in Southeast Alaska for most of my 20s, then lived for a while in Graham, Washington, then in the Baton Rouge area. Now, I'm back in my old stomping grounds. It's a pretty good place to live and I have room to stretch my legs. Outsiders are moving in, though, and quickly changing things. The game management land is less than a 1/4 of what it used to be.

I really loved Alaska and am considering going back for a while.

Pat, if its still there, there is a sign for the Buffalo Pawn shop in town. I painted it, for my buddy who used to own it. Years ago, not sure if its still there. Soldiers and Sailors area was a helluva place to bowhunt!

David,
The pawnshop sign is gone, but the Vet's home is still a good place to find a deer, antelope, or turkey. For those not familiar, the Vet's home has a section of public land that is open to archery only, and is right in town. Good fishing on Clear Creek, too.

Born and raised in Nova Scotia. From Grade 1 in small town New Glasgow. For the last 20 years in Greenhill, Pictou Co. on 250 acres of what my wife calls "RR1 Heaven". Nice and quiet, room to roam and deer in the back yard.
Dream about you folks with 3 or 4 deer tags, hogs and turkeys to hunt, but I'd never be able to find a place like this, I'm sure. As my father said, "I expect this place to see me out..."

Sometime I really miss Emporia though, nicest people I've ever met. I got permission at almost every farm that I ever asked to hunt on.

Another Army brat here. Dad spent 23 years in the Army.

Was born at Fort Eustis, Virginia outside of Newport News. My dad retired to San Antonio, Texas because of the great military and medical facilities there.

Went to college in Texas, met a girl from Tomball, Texas, got married and still married to her for 38 years come December 1st. We moved to Magnolia, Texas which is about 12 miles northwest of Tomball. Been in Mangolia since 1973.

I like Texas. Warm most of the year. Winters aren't cold. Spring is short, but the Summers are very hot and long. Great state for all sorts of hunting with any type of weapon, but you have to find a place to hunt on since the land in Texas is mostly private. As an added bonus, the saltwater fishing is great too since I live 90 miles from the Gulf of Mexico which is at Galveston, Texas.

Born, raised and schooled in NYC(Bronx), but our family farm -a "second" home is our oldest place of residence (Delaware County NY). "Primary" residence since l966 is Armonk NY in Westchester Co.  The farm is the source of my love of hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

Born, raised, and have lived my entire life in Iowa. Most likely I'll die here too. I live in the frozen tundra of Iowa (North Central) about 15 minutes from Minnesota. I now also own 36.5 acres in Jackson County near Bellevue. I love it! It's about 3.5 hours drive, but I have kids/grandkids nearby at each end of the drive. So I imagine I'll keep driving back and forth for the foreseeable future.

My story is a bit tragic as my passion for the majority of my life has always been of a piscatorial pursuit.

From San Jose Del Cabo to Longfin trips out of Morro Bay, to the Sul Duc and Bogichel Rivers of the Olypic Peninsula.  Then my haunt became British Columbia and I was a true trout bum swinging and driftfishing the Thomson, Dean, Babine until I finally landed in Alaska.  Now I am raising a family and exploring things that can truely be defined as ultimate adventures.  What was once the most prestiges returns on the entire west coast are now severely in decline.   All this since the six years that I have been here.  States like Washington and Oregon are getting stronger returns of salmonids than Alaska these days, granted they are hatchery fish.  Still plenty of fishing to be done, but I have committed to this land and as a result I have come back to my roots.  I love the hunt, the hunt of anything.  Have not fully committed to all traditional archery, but I'm leaning that way as long as my skills at hunting continue to blossom.  Still like my smoke poles....

Born in Michigan and raised just north of Traverse City on Torch Lake.  Graduated form Central Lake High School in 1985.

Brand new here and don't have enough traditional bow experience to add much yet.

I am born and raised Humboldt County, California, just south of Oregon on the coast. I spend as much of summer and autumn as I can in Trinity County though.

Born and raised in new York State lived there from 1942 until 2005. Retired and moved to Michigan and I still miss hunting in New York. Beautiful state with great hunting opportunities.
Unfortunately since I moved to Michigan and settled in a city, I don't get to hunt much anymore with the gas prices where they are.

Denison, Texas born and raised. Probably not going anywhere soon. Got one boy in college (he'll be a junior this year) about an hour away (Denton), another about to start one town to the south, and one that's gonna be a sophomore in high school this year. Gotta get them through school before I could even think about it, besides, most of what family I have is within a 100 miles or so.
