Going to Montgomery County. Anybody know how the mast crop is there and if the rut is on yet?
Good luck Steve!
Deer are chasing now. Lots of acorns too. Should be some big ones there in Montgomery County as everyone there seems to be an urbanite nonhunter.
I have not seen chasing proper yet but we are real close and it is probably going on. Problem is that we are getting too much fair weather (70 degrees, sunny, little or no wind). There was decent mast but honestly all of the deer I hunt mainly browse and I hunt in Monkey County as we affectionately refer to it. Good luck!
A bunch of frustrated deer hunters waiting impatiently for the rut. Which according to some lucky buggers on MWC is in full swing. But not where I've been. Hope you have as much fun as I did in CO in September.
Lots of bucks getting hit on the roads....lots of chasing in the woods in Fred County....Leaves are falling fast...You will have fun!
Good luck Steve, I was thinking of you the other day. Let me know how you do. tom
was hunting southern md(stmary's county)fri sat last week.buck movement was very slow for this time of year.kind of odd. :dunno:
I Just harvested a doe tonite in Montgomery County. I still am not seeing any chasing - and it's 70 degrees out.
Thanks for the good luck wishes guys and congrats on the doe Bill. I hunt those urban deer, so I guess I rely more on daily feeding migrations than I do on the rut. I have not seen a good buck in several years of hunting there, but I keep hoping the rut will bring one past me one of these trips. I sure do hope to thin out the does while I'm there, so I can fill my freezer with that great whitetail meat. I'll be hunting with some arrows that a fellow tradganger (Benjy) made to honor Chris Surtees, so I'm taking Chris along with me. I sure wish I'd had the chance to meet and hunt with him.
Come on cold front!
I don't have a good place for butchering where I stay and the butcher I used is no longer in the business. Any recommendations for a good butcher around Potomac, Rockville, Poolesvile area?
Sent you a PM about a butcher.
Thanks Frank.
Saw a couple nice bucks cruisin' on my way to work this morning between Frederick and Montgomery counties. The weather looks good for Friday. Good luck!
Yeah Friday looks good..Hi of 52 degrees. Too bad I get in too late. Hopefully some of you locals will take advantage of that cool snap.
Where ya hunting in Montgomery?
Yup, I'll be out Friday. Remember Sat and Sun (some counties) is Junior Firearms season so you must wear flu orange after Friday.

Yes. I checked the regs on that and will be sure to comply.
I hunted this am and saw a big older fork who was stumbling in from a night out on the town and a dink spike. Saw a few turkey as well, one of which was doing some partial gobbling. After about 10:00 the temperature went up 25 degrees

Finally started my Maryland hunt. Saw the biggest buck I've ever seen here. The nice 8 point chased off a forky and bred a doe within 40 yards of my stand, then walked right BEHIND me. Couldn't get a shot as he ran after the forky again. What a hoot!! Now I just need a couple of tasty does to come by...and they can bring that 8 point with them.
I also saw an even bigger 8 pt, midday, open field, in the middle of a Rockwell subdivision. Go figure.
I also saw a MAssive buck on Sunday down in SO maryland. 10 point with thick thick tines. I call him the picket fence buck.
give me another chance!
Also, the rut seems to be in full swing. I heard bucks fighting in the morning before first light and bucks chasing does
  Waiting for good news.
Just saw this thread. Hope you score in Monkey Co. I hunt Carroll and Howard and from what I have been seeing and experiencing, the rut is ON FIRE right NOW.
Good luck Marylanders...
WEIRD hunting right now with the moon and weather. BILL
62 degrees at 6 a.m. Definitely slows down the action. Only a couple of small bucks moving through this morning. We'll see what the rain brings out.
Looks like things are going to get better later in the week. No moon, reasonable temps, consistent wind.
Good luck everyone! Last weekend before FA season!
Thursday can't get here soon enough!
Any updates?
Off friday. COlder weather should be good. I will be out in Baltimore County.
Good luck to all of you. Looks wet tomorrow. I've never hunted in snow here. That would be great. Tracking snow is great if it isn't melting and taking your blood trail with it.
does any body hunt the prettyboy watershed bow only area? if so how is the deer population there?
