I shoot a 55 pound Tomahawk diamond series bow cut 1/16 from center. I am using a easton Trad only shaft in the 340 spine cut to 30 and 1/4 inches with a 100 grain brass insert and a 175 grain point. I am trying to use O.L. Adcocks tuning method and when I shoot my fletched field point arrow I hit where I look. When I shoot my bareshaft afterwards I usually hit within a 2" circle from where my fletched arrow is ( I am shooting the bareshaft at my fletched arrow). So it would appear I am tuned in however my broadheads (VPA terminators 175 grain) tend to fly straight but they do not hit the target straight. Can someone please help me with this. I have no one to watch arrow flight but I think it is pretty good.
The length of the BH will often weaken your shaft enough to throw things off a bit. You may need to use a different weight adapter. I only shoot wood so I can't help with those.
I dont know about you guys but hitting withing a 2" inch circle sounds pretty dang good to me. I am interested to see what others think
I might want to add I am shooting at 15 yards and my broadheads tip has had to been reshaped after hitting a rock so it is possible it is not perfectly centered.
Can you see it flying crookedly, or is the target moving it? If it's flying straight, and hitting where you want it to, I wouldn't fuss over it. A target can cause the shaft to angle after impact.
You say that your broadhead might be bent. Do you have another broadhead to try? Maybe a different type?
If your bareshaft is flying well, your broadhead should, too.
I don't pay attention to shaft angle. I use O.L. Adcock's method of tuning and my bareshafts hit with my fletched arrows. They just don't ever go straight in the target. I believe this is how he reccomends bareshaft tuning. It also may be that the target is causing the arrows to move or as I noticed after posting this my target is moving from the impact of my arrows.
My broadhead is not bent the tip has just been reworked so is it possible the tip of the bh is throwing my shaft in at an angle.
I believe you said you shoot the fletched arrow first and then aim the bare shaft at the fletched arrow. I think you need to aim the bare shaft at the same place you aimed the fletched shaft to get correct results. Not at the fletched shaft.
Just went out and shot the bare shaft and fletched arrow again. Aiming at the same spot my bare shafts hits the same place as my fletched arrow just at an angle. Does this mean I am in tune.
Sounds like it. Can you see the bareshaft flying at an angle? If it's in tune, it will fly perfectly straight. At this point, though, I think you can dispense with the bareshafting and fine tune the broadhead flight, if you need to. You probably won't have to do anything, though.
I shot my bh's again this afternoon and they seem to be flying perfect even on a bad release. It appears the target is making them hit at a little of an angle. As far as watching the way my bareshaft flies I don't worry about that as it is not important. I worry about how my bareshafts group in relation to my fletched shafts.
