When on my take downs I strap it tight to the riser top and bottom.  Not the best image but hopefully good enough.

I just get the straps a close to the riser as i can, they actually seem to quieten the bow some..

As Dave said, if you can't put the quiver on the handle (like the BOA and EFA quivers) the straps need to be as close to the riser as possible - as far from the end of the fades as you can get so it doesn't effect the limb flex as it is drawn. If it is on the limb beyond the fades it will affect the arrow flight and you will have to re-tune.

I avoided strap on quivers for a long time and only used the ones that screw to inserts in the bows riser until I was given a mini boa quiver to try.  They are much easier to use when you need to take the quiver on and off for storage or transport.  The quiver and arrows remain together as a single unit that I can side into a hard arrow box during transport.

And they do quite the bow down nicely.

I use a Great Northern quiver. I started out with the strap on but now use the Quick detach quiver on all my takedowns. It is actually easier and quieter on and off the bow because it does not have any straps flopping around. When I was using the strap on I mounted it just like Bjorn in his pic above.
