I've recently acquired a Chaparral with an endless loop string that shoots my 30" CX Heritage 250's w/200 gr. up front really well with a 9" BH (This is the BH it was set at when I was given the bow). I had a custom B-50 Flemish string made for a back-up, but it seems to take a lot of twisting (almost like the string wants to fold over on itself) to reach the 9". I've tried 8 1/2" to 8 5/8", and the arrows seem to work ok, but not as well as when the bow is set at 9". Where should this bow ideally be set at range wise for BH, and am I asking for trouble twisting my string up so much to achieve the 9"? Any help would be greatly aprreciated.
If you don't get a reply concerning the suggested brace height range for a Wing Chapparral, I suggest you call Bob Lee Archery in Jacksonville, Texas and talk to the "one who really knows".....Bob Lee himself.
Bob is a gracious man who will be more than happy to talk to you about the bow he designed and built when he was the owner of Wing Archery.
Bob Lee can be reached by phone at 903-586-1877, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST Mon-Fri.
8-8.5" was the suggested brace height-all that I've onwed and shot brace was 8 1/8".
What is your actual draw length? With the lower brace height what don't you like about the flight?
Thanks for the replies.
Kelly.... My actual draw length is 28". The bow seems to be a little louder at 8 1/2" compared to 9", and the arrow seems to be making a little contact on the outside of the shelf at the lower BH. I can see a small scuff on my cap wrap where it is contacting the leather. This may be more of a spine issue than bow issue, but I don't get that contact at the 9" BH. I can change up my arrow configuration if I have to, but if setting the BH at 9" is acceptable for the bow and the extremely twisted string, I will leave all as is. It's just strange to me the difference between the original string (endless loop) and the new Flemish string. Thanks again for the info.
For what it's worth, the bow is 55# and as stated above, I draw 28".
Yes, every bow will be quieter with a higher brace height-also will have less performance as the higher brace height equates to less limb stroke. Higher brace height does not hurt the bow in anyway.
Most people use an arrow 1/2-1" longer than their actual draw.
