I've been digging out a lot of old correspondence and mags and was reminiscing on the old NBBA. Was anyone here also a member?
I was.
Skydog, me too. Have the newsletters from #1 '1980. Loved reading about the Muzzy Shoot results. Board of Directors was the Who's Who of traditional Archery. I greatly admired John Musacchia. Glad you mentioned it, I really liked the NBBA. Probably just a little ahead of it's time.

I went to the NBBA National shoot with Tom Mussatto, in Indepndence, MO. Around 1983 I think. Had a great time. I really liked the shoots' format. We shot head to head in elimination rounds. The targets were foam blocks velcroed to trees or stakes. We had to hit the block solidly enough to knock it off. It helped to shoot a heavy arrow from a high poundage bow.
Was John Musacchia the founder of Muzzy? name sounds familar...
Chuck, I believe when the 'original'? board stepped down in '84, Tom and Floyd and Lynda Silcott, Howard Thelemann and others took over and were based out of Mo. I have one newsletter from around '85 or '86. I'm sure Tom could shed more light to the NBBA.
Bayhunter, I believe the Muzzy shoot was the original NBBA stump shoot held on John Musacchia's property in Aug of '82. I'm not a wealth of information, just pulling the info from the old newsletters. Hope this helps out.

Yeah, it may have been 85 or so, when I went to that shoot. I was still shooting 75-80 pound longbows at the time. Some of the guys that were shooting light poundage had a trouble with knocking the targets all the way off. It kind of evened things up a little; as the ones shooting lighter weight were more accurate, but the heavier bows took the targets off even with an off center hit.
I probably still have a few newsletters somewhere.
One of the Mussachia's is the "man behind muzzy". Don't remember if it's John or not. Michelle Eichler (Fred's wife) is a mussachia.
John Sr was the inventor of the Muzzy broadhead and started the company, John Jr and Michele are his children and co-owners of the company along with their mother Barbara.
This year was the 30th annual shoot and look forward to many more!
