Title: Mad Dog T/D Longbow
Post by: Arkanas_Scout on November 05, 2011, 09:21:00 AM
Hello all,
I am thinking about ordering a Mad Dog t/d longbow after the holidays. I have heard nothing but good about Mikes bows but have not seen to many pics of any t/d bows that he has build for anyone here. I am thinking about a low 40# bow to really work on my form and to shoot 3d with maybe some small game thrown in. I am in the military and having a bow that I can put in a duffle bag and take with me would also be great. Any pics/ input would be great. I am also not sure of what woods I would like, it is pretty confusing with all of the choices.

thanks,
josh

i'm sure mike and others will fill you in on the maddog t/d.  when it comes to bow woods, imo most any hardwood will do for the riser but gimme grass (bamboo) for the limbs - nothing but smoooooth drawing and shooting.  it's all good.  ymmv.

I have one, new in August.  It's a 3-piece TD longbow, with two matching sets of limbs.  I got it for my wife, and then had some extra limbs thrown in for myself.  The two limb sets are 27# @ 28", and 43# @ 31".  It's a nice little bow, with a Macassar Ebony riser and black glass on the limbs.

I just wanted to hop in and say thank you for your service. It is deeply appreciated and your and your brothers and sisters in arms are always in my families prayers.  Enjoy the Mad Dog when you get it.

I'll make take down versions of the bows I offer now and then, they cost a little more but not much.  I don't make the 2 pc take down with the bow bolt but I will make 3 pc take down.  I used the bow bolt a few times and had one failure, that could have cause a bad injury.  (Please keep in mind, it wasn't because of the bolt, it was me trying to put it in too skinny a riser.  The idea is nothing short amazing)

Well I'm the one Mike used the bow bolt for(3 bows). The bows are very nice. The one failure was pretty scarey. Riser was too thin as Mike said. Mike has just made me a three piece bow also.No pics yet,but I will. Nice work and shoots well. I know mike won't do the bow bolt, but here are some pics of the ones he did for me.

Thanks for all of the input. I broke it to the better half tonight about my plans and I got the look that only a married man gets from his wife when he brings up his plans to buy some new piece of gear. I guess I will have to make sure that I pave the way with jewelry for Christmas.

Here's a few pictures of the 3pc. longbow Mike built for my son.  It is a great shooting bow, and was the first 3pc midsize longbow that Mike built.

Wow that is a great looking bow. What is the draw weight and length. I am sure that your son loves it.

It is a 60" bow, and 42 @ 28.

And Josh, Thank you for serving our country.  God bless our troops!    :clapper:

That one was pretty much the prototype for a takedown of that length and weight.  Since then I've worked on the thinning out the wedges a bit,
lengthening the riser, and ending up with a bit more length from one fadeout to the other, and giving it a more trim apprearance.  The riser on that one is bolivian rosewood, and a paduak line (maybe bloodwood, can't remember exactly).
