Went hunting the other night and when I got into my stand, I put the arrow on the string and the feathers touched the riser.the brace height had dropped 2+ inches. The bow was shot the day before and was fine. Since it is a takedown I thought the limb bolts may have loosened up they were tight. The bow was not unstrung, string been on over 2 weeks. It is a zipper elk horn riser bow,62 inch, curly maple limbs.Flemish string.
Sounds like your string isn't quite right. What kind of material is the string? How much shooting have you been doing with it?
Sounds like the string twists slipped.
Mike
I would deffinetly check every thing out on that set up something is very wrong for that large of a brace height to drop that much!!! :scared: :scared:
flemish string, dyna flight97 I think.Did look untwisted, how can I stop it from happening again . didnt think if strung it could slip.
Maybe 3 hours of shooting on the string, also the knocks feel loose on the string, first string problem in over 40 years of bowhunting.
well I twisted the string up to get my brace height, the loops on the end got pretty small, never used this type of string before.Gonna have to search because not sure on how to shorten or lenghten properly.
Is it a new string? Are the 3 hours, the only 3 hours that the string has seen?
yes it was a spare string, and about 3 hours of shooting.Been strung for a couple of weeks.
No way should a d-97 string stretch that much. Order a new one right away and don't shoot that string. It is the tightness of the twists and a good coating of the proper string wax that holds a string together. A b-50 string might stretch up to 1.5 inches but that would be rare for it to stretch that much. 2 inches is a failed string that can come apart on you.
That is to much of stretch even for a new string. I know I would not use it again.
thanks, the brace height changed 2 inches will put on the old one on ,ruts on here in nj and I gotta hunt.
was told the strings a flemism made from dyna flight 97,anyone know where I can get one, didnt see that material on the flemish strings or would another material work
Sounds like the string is coming apart under the serving! I've seen that happen a few times over the years.
thanks ordered 2 new strings, can I twist them from one end to adjust brace height or is there a certain way to twist or untwist a flemish string?
Just make sure you don't un-twist the strings too much. Had a friend of mine ruin a limb on his Black Widow because the string came apart after he untwisted the string and set his brace height very low. I make my flemish strings an inch or so longer than standard so they are twisted good and tight.
thanks
i wouldnt shoot it man! had one blow apart on me once from under the serving, not fun...
didja take the bow apart, then reassemble before going on stand? if so, while off the bow it untwisted a whole lot.
can't see any other reason for a decent flemish string to allow a loss of 2" of brace height, unless the string wasn't "decent" to begin with and the twists didn't hold. won't have that problem/concern with any endless bowstring. :)
thinking now about it, it was not taken apart. When I put the string on I put no-gloves on the string I never could shoot right with a tab or glove, been using them as long as I can remember. They are really tight going on.I hope I can put them on without hurting the string.Never used that type of string so no problems.
What Tradman said!!
Please explain , "String coming apart under serving"?
You can twist from one end just check the BH after you shoot it for a couple days. and toss the other string for sure.
one more ? are you using brass nock points,if so becarefull your not crimping them to the point that they are cutting the string under the serving.
And on a flemish twist you can take a sharpie and mark at the bottom of each twist(top and bottom loops) and if they are slipping you can see the gap.
thanks guys, using dental floss for knock point, putting no gloves on the string will be the part I have to be careful doing.
