I would like to see your hunting knives,if you use factory or custom or maybe one made by the many talented members and sponsors here.
I don't always use the same ones; here is a beautiful pair Jeremy made me a few years ago. A necker and matching belt knife.

My allrounder from EKA, factory made in Kiruna Sweden:

I have several nice ones to choose from these are my favorites L to R: "Yukon" by Knives of Alaska, A custom built by my Cousin Ed Shempp, a Damascus Drop point by Doug Campbell, A wonderful 80+ old Marbles with new Ironwood handle, and my bone handled A/G knife built by "Tippit".
Bjorn, I really like those!!
The Campbell wears Bighorn scales and rides in horizontal sheath on my left side. It has become my constant 'hunting companion' since recieving it from Doug.
The "Tippit" looks like this when mated with a beautiful A/G made by Tim Roberts and rides my left forearm when ever there is a bow in hand.

Eka Nordic 11
I've used this knife in 3 continents hunting, it holds an edge real good and I've used it to skin a whole moose without resharpening :D
The newest in the hunting knife section is two beatiful knifes made by my fellow Tradganger Scott A. Roush

I made this one last year for elk hunt. No elk but its been through 3 mulies. 5" 1084 with african blackwood handle.
(http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/2crazyboys_photos/ECBF_CQC13_SF_SM.jpg) This has been my favorite knife this year. Emerson CQC 13 Bowie. Its bomb proof and keeps an edge. Not a pretty knife but a quality, trustworthy, American made brute that Id take into the woods or battle with equal confidence.
This one is a Jonathan Mcnees MCK 1. G10 scales and 1085 blade. Ive used it like a hatchet building groundblinds and clearing shooting lanes and was as sharp when I finished as when I started. A light touch to a steel and its razor sharp. And again, American made. (http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o244/2crazyboys_photos/DSCN2456.jpg) They arent the prettiest but Im drifting away from pretty knives these last few months. Im sure Ill be back to artful knives in a little bit.
Those are some great-looking knives guys! I use factory knives, all Bucks. I just like em I guess!

Skinners- (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a49/kwikstik/knives.jpg)
I have got way to many knives, bows also but that's another story. I like Bucks, Gerbers, Old Schrades, Kabars, Case, Bokers, Helle and my Favorite is a Marine Kabar that saw duty in the South Pacific with an Army engineer during WW II, just a great knife. I also just picked up an Emmons off the classifieds and have been carrying it this year.
Here is mine made by a great friend of mine
Here are a few made by my friend Wayne Depperschmidt.
The top one is Sambar Stag and is approximately 15 years old.
The middle one is Sheep Horn and was made last summer.
The one on the bottom is stabilized Elk Antler and was made sometime in between?
Not the knife I carry, but a good friend of mine brought me a buck skinner like the one a few posts above and said "Make me one like this, but fancier".
Pre-ban ivory and engraving by Ron Knott.

WWII vintage Army aircorp survival knife built by Camillus. I'm grateful to Sam Koger and Robin Severe for helping me restore it for many years of use to come.

That old Camillus is really neat!! I also would love to have a Randell someday....always just out of my price range. :dunno:
That is one serious blood-groove on that blade.
Since Mike Stenstrom (Maineac) showed you the knife he made for himself to match his own bow, how about a similar knife he made me to match my bow? The woods are Koa and Ebony with nickel silver bolsters, mosaic pins and Damascus blade. The bow is a Shrew Classic Hunter takedown with the matching Koa, black phenolic and Koa sapwood overlays. Outstanding bow -- outstanding knife!
Gotta say that there are some talented knife makers here, and I am privileged to own several beautiful knives made by a few of those guys, including Doug Campbell, Lin Rhea, Karl Andersen, Frank Scukanec, Clarence Smitherman and Shawn Swafford! These guys not only build knives that are gorgeous and exceptionally high quality, they are also all terrific people.
Allan
I've enjoyed the simplicity of this Tippit blade this season. Just a quality tool without all the frills.

Doug Cambell and this knife is a workhorse. Feels great in the hand and the looks don't hurt either. Good luck on your quest Felix as there are many nice ones to chose from.

Lil' Shaver neck knife
(http://www.shrewbows.com/rons_linkpics/Lil_Shavers2.JPG)
Some mighty fine looking knives you guys got!
I have a feeling this thread is gonna go on for a while.......... :)
Like most here I have a bunch, here's a pic of the ones I use most often. Usually one on my hip and one of the pocket knives in my... pocket.
From the top its a big sticker made by our own Lin Rhea, with a Kenny Rowe sheath. A two blade Buck muskrat that I've had forever. My Sticshooter knife with osage scales. And a two blade KaBar 1030 that was my dad's.
And I feel I have to post a pic of Lin's knife before I drug it all over and used it on a bunch of critters.
Nathan made mine, this one is so sharp it doesn't cut, it unzips them.
Used this KaBar for decades only to keep from losing my expensive skinners. Now an old friend. Just finished my own version of the Bark River Pro-Scalpel that will make the top 2 list all-time. Can't get pix to download.
This is a great thread! Just when I see the perfect knife, another is right behind. Too many to even name. Wow!! Great job folks!
ron w, I felt the same way about the Randalls. But with their leadtimes the way they are, I figured I could put 10% down and put $5/month in a savings account and by the time they finally got to my order it would already be paid for. I got mine simply because of the Randal history. Don't use it. I carry one of my own beat up knives, but it's nice to have a part of knife history that i can pass down to one of my boys. Wonder if Lin's lead time is long enough to do the same thing? His craftsmanship makes my Randal look like my first knife.
This little neck knife has become a favorite for several years, and it has found its way into numerous animals' innards.
Here's a couple of "Helle" blades that I finished of myself.
I haven't as yet used all of these, but my favorite is my long time companion is my Puma skinner which I bought around 1973. The arm guard knife I only just got but I am sure it will come in handy.

Ron, was that an actual knife that Seth was known to carry???...Paul
Great thread. Have more knives than I need but sure do like'um. Will try to post pictures later of my snakewood hunter by Keith Murr. Keith surely makes a good knife. My man, "Ric O'Shay", has a couple nice ones posted already. Can't let him get to far ahead of me.
QuoteRon, was that an actual knife that Seth was known to carry???
No, this knife was was made by C.L. Matteo and it's a copy of the blade style of the knife he carried (see middle photo) Seths original knife was inscribed "Grizzly Dissector"
My 2011 season carries are my Hurricane Irene India staged handled caper that skinned out at least a 1/2 dozen bears this past spring and a bird's eye maple skinner that originated from an old rusty/pitted buggy seat spring...tippit

Mine are simple ones that I made from Russel Green River Blades. First one is my main big game skinner, but it is too big for yotes and other smaller game. Second one is for boing out. Never carry on my belt, always in the bottom of the pack.
For initial opeining I use a 4" Uncle Henry folder but got no pic of it!

Made by a dear friend of mine.

There's some absolutely beautiful knives in this thread! But I have to say that the bone handle knife in the first pic that LE Carrol posted on page one makes my mouth water and my heart skip a beat. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v105/Rooselk/Graemlins/Smilies/G-drool.gif)
Here are three I use.
The top one was made here by a friend, Chris Cawthorne.
I made the middle one from a saw blade, and have made prettier copies of it for friends.
The bottom one I picked up in Nome and is by J.J.Johnston.

What is the knife in the middle on the bottom? Really like the looks of it.
Love those Randall 25s. Beautiful workmanship.
First one is my most used field dressing kinfe - a 4" Norwegian laminated steel blade in a stag grip I cobbled up myself.
Second is my current carry - a Benchmade Activator 201 (3-5/8" blade) in D2 steel. Very happy with it so far.
Whoa, there are some real sweet knives shown here.
My longtime "go to" knife is the J. Marttiini knife that was made in Finland - I always have it in my pack.
This is my new favorite - made by Greg Gottschalk - expert knife maker here in Pittsbugh. I wear it in a sheath on my belt.

I usually carry one of my trusty Buck 105s or a Buck 112, which seems to be misplaced at the moment. And I carry one of Clarence's (Skullworks) damascus blades in my pack.

That Benchmade activator looks real nice!

This is a knife that is important to me because it is a gift of my good friend Steve Clandinin,he knew I had some Macassar riser bows and so he made the handle with some Macassar!
I used it as soon as I had it on my hands.
"JimB,

Gene,I bought kit blades,I believe from texasknife and installed the bolsters and handles. The handles are sheep horn.
Outstanding tools of the bow hunters trade....

To accomplish my good friend Craig, here it is a Doug Campell bighorn sheep damascus knife.

This Nebraska turkey is been taken with a great help from Craig, the rest is all Montana:knife and bow.
Great knives folks! Here's my latest after the BR Pro-scalpel series. Hollow ground scalloped blade, full tang (hidden), polished bone bolster backed by 2 rawhide spacers. Handle is weathered black walnut burl (?) cured in olive oil & highly polished.
(http://i.imgur.com/J1Fg0l.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/Tgl4bl.jpg)
Lots of beautiful customs. Cool to see the variety of blade shapes, in particular.
I don't own anything all that fancy, just some good reliable knives. While I appreciate the craftsmanship and materials in high-end cutlery, I also just find a lot of beauty in reasonably-priced simplicity and functionality (plus I'd likely be too worried about a knife that costs several hundred dollars, but that's just me).
Here are three of my faves (l to r - CRKT Brow Tine, Buck Ranger Skinner #113, Grohmann Trout and Bird):
The Buck #113 is a great all-around knife for the money, imo. And I've never found a better blade shape for a variety of small game (and even some larger game tasks) than the Grohmann.
For cleaning game, I really like my Kabar Becker BK11...

I have boxes full of knives, but these two have become my favorites for hunting/bushcraft.
Bladetech Prohunter (the folder) and the Bark River Bravo 1
(http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n217/dave27615/bravo.jpg)
The Bravo 1 is all go and no quit.
Here's a Damascus with Lacewood and PH another gem by Jeremy
(http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q291/bjornweb/photo-1-2.jpg)
Smithhammer, those look great and cover all the bases.
Here are my hunting knives. All made by friends except the one I made. The hawk and the knife and sheath just below the head were made by Bobby Keller of North Wilkesboro, NC. The hawk is made from a RR spike and the knife from an old file.
The one on the top to the right was made by Don Bruton(aka White Wolf) for my first Colorado elk hunt. This knife was also made from an old file.
The one on the bottom right was my first hunting knife made by my friend in GA, Larry Spier. It is an Atlants Cuttlry Blade that Larry fitted the antler handle and bolster on. Probably made in 1979.
The knife on the bottom left with the paracord handle was last year birthday present by Jonathan Creason. It was made with metal stock...and the one on the top left was one of my first attempts at knife making last winter. It was made with a lawn edger blade.
Several years before he passed away, my good friend Jim Sasser made these matching knives for my two boys and I. He also made the ivory folder for me. He was truly a great, great man and I miss my visits with him.
At Geezer: Love those three matching handled knives. What kind of wood is that? Just beautiful.
I will post some pics of some of my collection pieces, have not really used many of them for hunting yet as I was into knives way before I was into hunting lol.
TTT for more beautiful blades....
2 1/4 inch blade, 6 inch OAL. My carry knife.

Mr. Rhea that is a most desirable knife. Hats off to your craftmanship. Thanks for sharing.
I still use Grandads knife....I made a crude version of the bear bowhunters kit from scrap leather and an old combat boot of mine.
Aint pretty but still does the trick~

Long story...I spent a lot of time in Sasser's knife building shed, talking about the special handles I wanted on the knives. Jim thought about it and pulled a cigar box out of a corner. Back in the 90's, Safari Club had highly customized rifles built - believe they called them the 'Big 5'...and they auctioned one a year. Each year, the custom rifle builder tried to out-do the previous years rifle - it was really prestigious to be selected to build one. Well, as I recall, Jim Sasser was asked to build a matching knife for one of the rifles. The wood on the knives came from the butt-end of the walnut blank. All Jim could remember is that the wood blank was exhibition grade and probably cost in the thousand$. He made me a deal on the small chunk of wood he had left from that build. The first two knives, the larger ones, were built for my boys. The next year Jim told me he had enough to make a smaller version so I wrote him a check right there. The wood is as pretty as any you'll see.

Got this one from our own "Over&Under" as a good gesture. It is a great little knife.

Bunch of nice knives here and Lin's stuff always amazes me.
I feel underdressed, but I'm still proud of my Buck model 110 after 31 years of service and still good as new!
Decisions, decisions... :dunno:

Gonna need suspenders for certain when you hang all them from your belt!
Good lookin pile o'cutlery there.
Nice Mr. La Clair.....very nice!
Ron,I am sure you love knives!
Felix.......could you tell :biglaugh: Yes I do, big ones, small ones, old ones, new ones. And I really like big ones.....
Here's a trio of Sticshooter's creations.
The top knife is my main hunting knife. It has a gorgeous pinned osage handle. It really holds a nice edge.
The middle one I had Frank make for a close friend of mine. The farrier rasp bolster is in honor of his father, who was a blacksmith. The handle is elk horn, which represents his work in New Mexico.
The bottom one I had made for my father-in-law.
Here is my personal hunting knife. One of the first Autumn Hunters I made. It has Gidgee scales from Australia. D-2 Steel at 61.5 rockwell and cryo treated. It's been through quite a few critters.

This is my knife "kit". there is a Bark river, a Buck 113, that I realy like, even if new... My favorit one, a Gerber Sakai, given to me by a Japanese client after a guyde trip, sharpened with one pass on the left for every ten on the right.
I have a bunch more, like Opinels, Laguiol etc...

let see if I can do this... :knothead:
Note to my self, It worked, I must be smart...
Here is my new hunting knife package. My good friend Terry Knipshield gifted me this knife. He knows I prefer a smaller knife. I really liked the Loveless style drop point skinner he built that sold to a TG member. So Terry just went ahead and sent me a scaled down version. What a nice surprise! So I built one of my famous (ha ha I wish) cross draw friction fits. I did the snake skin tooling that I personaly like a lot in cognac for my prefered color. I wanted to do something difrent on the back so I finger carved it or free cuts. I wanted to do some scrolls so this is wahat she looks like. Enjoy!

Tough to beat a Trapper as a pocket knife.....
Latest as of Tuesday. One of Sticshooter's own handmades. Great knife & feel in the hand. If I can get it sharp, it's a keeper!

Can somebody please tell me the best method for removing drool from a keyboard?
Good grief...there are some extraordinary knives on this thread. Thanks for posting your pics!
My wife had this made for me. What's cool is there is a heart in the middle part of the blade. Not intentional but sure made a point.

Outstanding looking BK14. I like the wrap and the kydex. Looking good!
All these beautiful custom knives. I tend to latch onto something and use it all of my life.
My main bowhunting knife, a Puma Skinner I bought new in '71. Above it is the Puma Hunters Pal I carried and bought new in '69. My son lost it when he was a teenager but found it later in the condition you see.

This lowly Western is one of my favorites because I bought it in 1956 when I was 12.

This old Finnish Puukko knife of unknown age was given to me by a friend a few years ago. It's a neat knife.

For rifle hunting in the salt marshes I carry a titanium Buck folder. The marsh is hell on knives and I don't want to loose one of my favorites.

This one has been on my belt for many years and has been to Canada and Alaska. It was made and donated by Jeff Givens and I snagged it on the silent auction at a United Bowhunters of Illinois Banquet. It has been a true companion that takes and holds a great edge. Thanks, Jeff!

The only one of many I happen to have a pic of...
This is a knife that was made in 1979 for my grandpap and he gave it to me for christmas last year.It had never been used untill this year i broke her in. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/DSC07145.jpg)
I haven't made a knife in about 3 years now but, here are a couple rejects I didn't feel comfortable selling or giving away.
The one on the left is my regular carry around, on the right is my utility knife I keep hanging from a hook in my garage work space. They have both seen some pretty heavy use and abuse but keep on trucking, despite their flaws.

They don't hold a flame to some these incredible blades I see here but they are my favorite hunting knives. I've had them for a long time.

The larger knife on the left is the one I'm currently carrying. I made these two around Christmas time and actually used the larger one on a late season doe I shot.

Love this thread, Keith looks like your over your limit! Wait what I'm I saying, I think every trad hunter should have a selection like that to pick from.
I'm glad this came back up......great stuff....and I thought I had to many....lol!!!!!!!!!
Here's a pair with spalted maple I did for a friend and his son.

Ron, those are amazing looking knives.
Thanks Andy. I did a set of 6 similar ones for a family hunting group, but the wood wasn't nearly as fancy. That really got old by the time I finished the sixth one - all the same.

I also carry, depending on what my adventure are, either a Leatherman Wawe or a S.O.G powerplier.
A good Gränsfors axe or a Kukri in my backpack and then I'm up to what ever nature want to test me for.
