Title: Finding a place to hunt
Post by: jfelkins on November 03, 2011, 09:30:00 PM
We just moved to middle TN and want to find a place to hunt. What have you done to find a place to hunt in a new area? One friend suggested I run an add in Craigslist. We're happy just to shoot does. Luckily my wife likes venison! Thanks!

I would suggest contacting Tennessee Division of Natural Resources or their equivalent, here in LA. it's Wildlife and Fisheries. They will certainly have a list of state Wildlife Management Areas probably with maps and of course will have seasons, regulations etc..

If you are lucky you will find some trad gangers in your area that will be able to help out.

The DNR or DEC or whatever they are called, suggestion is good.

I would find public ground this late in the seasson and stretch your legs. This time of year anything can happen, I have had deer walk right up to me.

I know how it is to move to new areas. Its tough at first but slowly you will gain access to places if you keep at it.

Good Luck

thanks guys. I have found some public ground but it seems to get a lot of pressure. I'll keep working that angle and building my local "network."

I would get active, and join clubs. Talk with everyone you meet about hunting. sooner opr later someone will have a brother or friend that has a place you can go.

You could try the CL route but I see people posting a lot on our  local one, and seems if they are not having much luck. You could also start knocking on doors, the old fashioned way.

Best of luck

Get online, find public hunting areas.  Then pull up mapper.acme or google earth, start your scout from your home computer. You can find great spots initially online (topographic features), then go check them out in person.
This is a very easy way to get into some excellent areas. Best of luck.

Welcome to TN go to the TWRA website and check out the hunting guide. Lots of WMA land to hunt. Land Between the Lakes on the KY TN border has a good bow season. Just have to get out there and check em out.

With regards to using Craigslist; would you if you were a landowner answer an ad on CL for hunting rights?
