Title: Reflex deflex vs recurve
Post by: Formby on October 29, 2011, 09:03:00 PM
This has probably been discussed before but how much difference is there between the two?  I will be getting a new bow after hunting season and wanted to spend about 300 on a used bow and just wanted to see if I should include longbows in my search for a bow

There is not a lot of difference between RC and the RD LB even the risers are similar. My preference for the past 6 yrs is the RD but that might change any time-who knows?
Make sure you spend time with as many as you can-not just a few shots either.

Are the rd as quiet as a traditional longbow?

Some are as quiet, but most are in between the traditional LB and RC.  Performance is about the same between the top performing RD LB and RC.  You can usually go a little shorter with the RC. There are plenty of short RD LB's designs,  but I still like 2" more than a RC.

Robertson Stykbow has the Fatal Styk in most lengths, I like the 62" and 64" with a 27.5" draw. In a recurve about 60". Both are smooth, stable and fast enough. The faster a recurve is, the harder it is for me to shoot well. They can be more sensitive.

The best advise anyone can give, is to try several, watch for shoot where dealers will be present.
