Really in the market for one of these. I need "the Good" "The Bad" and "The Ugly" Nuthin that will break the bank.
I am guessing the MOAB or Thunderstick III from Thunderstick Archery would fill the bill. Use the search feature here and you will find alot of information on the MOAB and many, many others. Good Luck-Mike
Nate Steele at BamaBows makes an awesome RD bow. The Expedition.
I have one and it is a rocket launcher. Very easy to control and shoots a variety of spined arrows.
Love it.
Matt
Lost Creek bows are real nice, shoot great and not to hard on the wallet...
I have the LC Judge and it's a sweet shooter!
Add a few more, take a look at the Robertson Stykbow Hybrid and Fatal Styk, Big Jim's has two, and Pronghorn Custom Bows.
The upside is if you can shoot one, your ahead, if you can't, it is hard to know what your missing. :archer2:
If you want a short bow, I go with a Thunderstick Mag. They go down to 56". Or, if you don't mind a little longer, I'd go with a MOAB.
I would take a look at Holm-made, Hoots, Dwyer, Thunderstick, Black Creek, Striker, JK traditions just to name a few that make a heck of nice Hybrid that won't break the bank. Check out all the TG sponsers and you will find lots to choose from.
The list is long in this catagory...lots to choose from. Try as many as you can get your hands on so you can feel what you like personally.
I bought a Kanati used on here, and I'm very very pleased with it. My friend's Treadway black swamp is the only bow I'd be equally happy with. Both bowyers are more than willing to go out of their way for you. I've spoken personally to both of them. The hybrids realy are the way to go in my book..
www.bigfootbows.com, (http://www.bigfootbows.com,) Kirk is a sponsor.
take a look at Wippenstick - Ken Rohloff or Eagelwing archery - Steve Tallant
the best answer is Try Before You Buy.
other than that, welcome to "bow gamblers anonymous" - yer just getting opinions of others that will have little to no meaning until you wrap yer bow hand and string fingers around the bow in question - good luck! :wavey:
You've GOT to try before you buy. With this style, like most others, it's all about feel and grip - totally subjective. The ones that really worked for me were Big Jim's, Dwyer, Hoot's and Kanati with the nod probably going to Dwyer. Haven't shot a Maddog but heard nothing but good about them.
I second on the Bama Expedition, I am hunting with a 60inch Bama Hunter Expi and my son has a 64in both great shooters!
IMHO, how could you go wrong w/any? Really good looking functional rocket launchers. Favor Morrison Dakota, Bama Bow (setting the woods on fire w/quality & price), & Centaur. Haven't seen much re Craig's Hill R/D bow but I always like thinner & deeper cross-sections. 2nd trynbuy. Like to see your choice & full shoot report. Good luck.
Give Bob Sarrels (he's a Texas boy and a sponsor here)a call about his BlackHills II, I have a couple and can recommend them highly if you want a one piece, or his Blueridge take down if you want a three piece.. I just ordered a Blueridge short riser 60" for myself yesterday.. super nice bow..
Being a Hill shooter only, not so familiar w/other makes/models. Didn't know Bob (Sarrels) made r/d bows but have spoken w/him several times to compliment his excellent work & customer service. Very fine Christian man I'd highly recommend also. Guess Maddog Mike Mecredy makes r/d too? Just a big bunch of quality choices.
Check this link maybe something you might be interested in.

Another vote for the BamaBows Expedition. This is the Hunter model.

Great lookin bow...
Got the message Bob, Try try try,,thanks for the advice!
One thing that you might consider is checking out some of your area bowyers. Ron Foley is I believe from Tx. and he makes and nice bow. I am in the middle of Ks. and I have a couple of Wild Horse Creek bows with another one being made. It`s nice to be able to work with the maker and have some personal touches, such as picking out the exact peice of wood etc. Mike is in northeast Ks. and it`s not that out of the way to go visit and have him do the final fitting to my hand until it`s just the way I want. I hope you enjoy this process, beats one from K-Mart.
There are a couple of Bowyers here around Houston also. I'm trying to find the guy that bought Grey Wolf Longbows
The Foley bows I have seen are exceptionally nice.
Iam going to second the Sasquatch. That bow sings. It is super fast. Perhaps the fastest, quiet and shock free. Kirk is a supurb bowyer that takes the time to perfectly hand time and tune every bow before it leaves the shock. They are a pleasure to shoot. They are available at a base price. Also the base bow will be made exactly like the most expensive bow . If you really want a hunter then that would really shine.
God bless you, Steve
I'm still gonna say the Sarrels Blueridge takedown longbow. Bob is in Austin and you can try many at his shop.

What may be a gem in my hands may actually be something totally undesireable in yours.
Try before you buy if at all possible.

Absolutely, it's all about the grip. A good shooter can shoot just about any bow well enough to kill, but even for them there will be that "special" bow
Try Before You Buy! My recommendation is the tomahawk series bows though.
I am a Black Widow guy and could go the rest of my life without ever shooting anything else. I absolutely love my PLX longbow. It's fantastic.
But... I have become interested in Kirk's (Bigfoot) bows lately. Never shot one, never seen one shot, never seen one in person. BUT, Kirk clearly knows a lot about how to make a cutting-edge trad bow. I read a lot of his posts. And a lot of guys are clearly pleased with the bows he's made for them. I will probably buy another BW someday... but I want to try a Sasquatch first!
Kanatis are hard to beat and are priced very well. Jason is great to deal with.
i LOVE my hunterbow hybrid. idaho curt on here makes them and they are works of art and and shoot just as good as they look. awsome guy to deal with and his customer service is top of the line.

There's no substitute for a bow that looks and feels right in YOUR hand.
You definitely want to try a MOAB along with the rest, though. Great bow that won't break the bank.
I've tried 6 different hybrids now. A+H ACS take-down longbow, Centaur Carbon Elite, Whippenstick Cari-bow Pegerine and Bearpaw quickstick (European Brand)and V Archery hybrid a Dutch Bowyer.
For me there is no, I repeat, no equivalent for a Peregrine!
I wonder if they Have a Loaner Program for that MOAB?....I can fiels test it 3 weeks in December in South Tejas!
You should give Navajo bows a try. I've shot them for years and Roy is a real gentlemen to deal with.

Here is a beauty I picked up from Arnold at V Archery [made in the Neatherlands] Very reasonable price wise, quick build time, it looks and shoot great... This one is 62"50#@28.. Arnold is a member here on TG.

Check out the Hitman Custom Longbows. I think for the price and shootability of them you can't go wrong

You will get a ton of advice on RD Longbows. Best advice I saw posted on this thread was from Rob DiStefano, "Try before you buy". Just because someone says one bow, it might not be "THE" bow for you.
I own a 56" Thunderstisk Mag and a 62" Turkey Creek I hardly ever shoot.
tom deputy in abilene texas test on it on trad archers gazzette.com shoots 10 gr per lb at 180 great shooting bow i got one hoping the lighter wt would help my shoulder it did not but then nothing would tom got the forms from an old time bowyer .i love my longbows but toms hybrid is the real deal for anyone looking that type.
The Kanati and Thunderstick Mag and MOAB would have to be on the short list. Great shooters and values. In the end, we each have to pick our own.
I own a Lost Creek Judge & a Kota Prairie Fire. Can't say enough good about them.
