I have two wool felt hats that are in need of some serious cleaning. I took them to two different dry cleaners and they said they would not touch them.
Naturally I understood this as I didn't want to touch them either. LOL...joke...
They won't run them through the dry cleaning process...how do you fellas clean your wool felt crushable hats? Or do you toss them and replace 'em?
Definately don't chunch it!! You should be able to find a "hat sponge" from somewhere that sells good quality felt hats. The ones I've used just looks like an organge, very porous, stiff sponge. You can just brush them and it'll clean up pretty well.
Ethan,
Thanks for getting back with me. These arn't beaver felt hats...just the crushable wool hats. They really need cleaned...not just brushed...
Any problem using something like woolight in the sink with cold water?
Trad- Man, you got it with the cold water and woolite.
In the "Gentle Cycle" with your Frilly Camo BVDs!! :saywhat: hahaha
Ivory soap and a damp wachcloth, then a hair clothes brush.
The trick is to clean them occasionally. Not after they behin to crawl on their own.

LOL...thanks fellas...
I hand washed mine in woolite and cold water, rinsed, and rung out as much water as I could.
Then put it on a old foam head that came with a wig, or something years ago. Shaped it, and let it dry. It came out like new. The first one was a test, but have done four more since, and all of them turned out good.
You're supposed to clean your hat?

It was a revelation to me as well...
Just finished my first hat. OMG...totally gross. I'm embarressed....
I used balled up towels as I don't have a foam thingy. I just put it on my head every hour for a few minutes to keep it from shrinking to much.
So far so good!

x2 You goin' to a wedding or something?
I want to Spiffy mine Up for Church!!
If you have a real western store in your area, they can steam clean it.
I just wear mine in the rain when it gets too dirty. Gary
I'ma gonna tell ya...nothing short of many washings in a 2 gallon bucket of cool water would have gotten this hat clean...
It's drying now on the kitchen counter...we'll see how it is once it's dry.

Billy
I was told that get a big plastic bag, put hat in bag, drop into the bag about a 1/2 box of baking soda, shake bag, several times over a week time. Take hat out of bad and use vacumn to make it just like new...no smell. You still may have some stains.
I also was told that you could also put hat into a pail of woollite and cold water and let it stand for several days and then just pull out and let air dry....
